Why is it some Impreza's sound different then others?
Some Imprezas have noisier engines due to the state of tune of the MAF.
Fit a CockLink and the noise sounds like a Ferrari ...... and you get the added benefit of Chav Lights on the dash!
Exhausts have nothing whatsoever to do with the sound!

Yep, different exhausts can make a massive difference on the noise. Different size / shape back boxes create a different sound, and if it's decatted it's going to be louder too.
Oh and you can ignore Mr Lewis, he's oviously forgotten to take his pills again tonight

The metal used in the exhaust is one major factor to its sound, shape can be another but take note, loud is not always good, noise=energy, energy=???
Figure that one out

As for your question yes different exhausts produce ifferent types of sound, some loud some not, some with more of the burble etc..

Saw a lad the otherday who had a scooby and asked him if he used scoobyNet, he said that he came on once or twice and said that most the people on here where nasty to him when he asked a question, he couldnt believe that so called like minded enthusiasts could be like that.

SN is a place I would rather see get better, with less bull and nastiness.
Does everyone not accept what I am saying, maybe I am wrong, but it does seem to be getting on many peoples nerves at times?

Yep I'd agree with that - pi55's me off. It is a shame a few people (checkout the post counts of these members) seem to enjoy trauling through the site mocking new members and generally ruining what would otherwise have been a decent thread. It is a shame because who knows just how many newbies who get put off SN at the get go. All this stuff about the Impreza's image going down the pan - don't think the impression of the owners that this site gives is helping that.
And on topic... the backbox tunes the sound. The end pipe plays a big part. For example those that are with a wide diameter and relatively long will amplify the deepeness of exhaust note. Smaller diameter - not as deep and more raspy.
The thread would have been fine if people had just ignored Pete although it is bloomin' tiring when his constant need for attention spoils every newbie question - and this one was perfectly reasonable. Hello TruroScooby, as others have said, the noise is dependant on the induction and exhaust set-up.

As above really, the flat four burble is predominantly due to the unequal length headers. All UK scoobies have these, so the principle differences in sound will relate to tone and volume- variations on a theme, if you will.
JDM cars have had equal length headers for some time now, the burble is largely banished and replaced by a deep soft sound that mutates into a WRC style "rip" when you put your foot down.
Personally, I prefer the burble- it's a unique characteristic of the car and makes the scooby one of the very few cars you can identify with your eyes closed. Subaru UK are aware of the popularity of the burble with Uk customers and I would bet won't be swapping to the equal length headers for a while yet, if at all.
