Default Decats vs Insurance - confused

Following on from the decat vs Insurance topic on the other list I have just called my insurer and they will insure the car with a full de-cat for an extra fee, but in the event of an accident they could question into wether the car was road worthy at the time and a decat could deem that as not! So basically i would be getting charged an extra premium to effectivly invalidate my policy!

Anyone help? Also nto trying to open a can of worms here... just confused how i can get charged to have the cover with a decat but in the event of a claim they can repute it...

That's exactly what Greenlight told me a few years ago.

The same goes with tints.

I would think it will be similar to driving with no MOT. As your car is deemed unroadworthy, the value of the payout will be drastically reduced but you will still be covered. A lose/lose situation. Pay more for your insurance, get less if you need to use your insurance, and maybe by adding more power to the car make it more likely you will need to use your insurance.

Goes round and round! The only other option would be to get a sports cat i guess. However it still doesnt make any sense of "yes we will cover you but can argue the claim" reply I had!!

Why not build a 'matrixless' cat?

Use a standard cat caseing and wrap it round a piece of tube, yes obviously its a bit more complex than that but thats the general idea, that way if the car is inspected it will look as if it has a full cat.. They are VERY unlikey to do an emissions test.

Some have been known to smash the internals of cats, remove the debris and refit
