Default Prodrive Impreza WRSport

Hi there, just a quick post to see if i can find out how many of these beauties were built. I have a MY00 version but i understand they were built to order from MY98. I have never seen another on the road but the previous owner did see one.

There must be more than two, but i guess a list price of £29500 in 2000 was quite a lot of money.

Only ever seen one WR UK turbo. Seen a few WR P1s and RB5s though.

So you got the Prodrive rear wing, PPP, Prodrive Recaros and Prodrive Alcon brakes? And probably some other goodies I don't know about

Nice

Yep thats the one, it also has Prodrive exhaust, Prodrive wheels & Prodrive/sti suspension, I believe the PPP was optional, however mine has it.

I'm impressed most people don't even know what it is.....

I've recently bought a set of Alcon calipers but the cost of replacing the discs and pads is somewhat shocking

I'd kill for those recaros though

Get some pics up plz mate!

But this wasnt a model?

This was the entire Prodrive parts list added on to a normal Turbo 2000.....and badged as WRSport....

I would assume these would carry a premium, but not as much as an 'actual' model with these added as standard. I guess that is why they are so rare as no-one was going to part that much money to turn there Turbo 2000 into a WRSport....

Mark, Prodive say it was a model, thats how they intended it to enter the market (Subaru order number was SACC2445, look on SIDC FAQ, under special edition's).

Yes you could buy the packs individually, however the only way to get a WRSport was to buy it new from the dealer as a WRsport. The spec is the same as a RB5 WR except in interior trim colour, exterior colour and wheel design.

I even have the WRSport certificate from prodrive to prove it's authenticity.......

BTW i didn't post this thread to start an argument on what it is, just if anybody else hear has one.......

Prodrive WR Sport

Take the standard Impreza Turbo from new and add the full Prodrive interior treatment, suspension package, body kit, wheels with exclusive WR interior and exterior badging (engine upgrade not compulsory) and an official World Rally Sport limited edition of the Impreza Turbo is yours (for £30,000).

------

Hmm which part of take a standard Impreza and add the full prodrive treatment dont you get !?

This could turn into one of those pissing match threads! And I dont want it to be, and your entitled to your opinion and so am I!!! So we will just leave it at that!

But my original comment stands that it is so rare because not many people wanted to add that cost onto a standard Turbo 2000...

How much did you pay for it out of interest? And was it a lot 'over' a Turbo2000 of the same age?

I hope you enjoy it anyway

It wont turn into one of those pissing match threads as i'm not going to argue against your opinion, you are entitled to it, i have no problem with that.

I'm only interested in tracking down other owners....

I would add one thing however, who do you think makes the RB5 as an example? How do you think they were made? Well i'll tell you, Prodrive ordered std cars, striped them, modded them it to the spec required and then sold them as RB5's. What great cars they are too. the only difference was that the RB5 was built in a limited production run, the WRsport's were built only to order....

I have owned the car for a year now, and love it. I payed about £750 more than i would to get a good std UK turbo, but a good bit less than a RB5 in WR spec.

Was something said recently on SIDC about RB5's being based on an STi Shell.. could tell by looking at their solid rear seat backs or something?!

Not supporting the claim, just throwing it out there...

I saw a Mica Red MY00 WR Sport for sale a while ago.. it was faaaarkin gorgeous!!

Cheers,
Grant

Horses for coures and all that. Some people just like the RB5 colour and will want one over another same-spec MY99/00 Turbo. Some are even willing to pay that bit extra.

I bought mine new coz it was a bit different and no other reason.

Yer, I'm not stupid, I used to have a P1, I know how they are made!

But the WRSport did not have type approval and the package was added after registration....

THIS was my mate Alans, and then Darrens, but unfortunately went to some other unscrupulous owners recently. Discussed on THIS THREAD recently.

The exhaust has to be added after registration as it doesn't pass type approval emmissions (centre cat has been removed, good for power, MY00 PPP = 240bhp, MY00 WR = 250bhp).....

Mark stop turning this into a bun fight, i'm not interested..... You say it's not a model, i know it is, either way enough is enough.....

Yes it does have the WR-Sport rev counter..... interesting threads corradoboy....

The whole RB5 shell thing is a bit of a mystery. Call it what you will - chinese-whispers, hype or just plain right or wrong, but to be honest I've no idea having never seen an original STI 5/6 car next to a std MY99/00 car for comparison.

The RB5 has no folding seats and a little square-cut tubing across the rear panel. That may (or may not) be the infamous solid-bulkhead.

Mike Wood at Prodrive would be the best man in a position to clarify how the model was built.

That does sound like the solid bulkhead to me.

Are you sure? The MY00 cars were mapped more safely than the MY99's meaning the 00's actually had less power standard, but otherwise identical to the 99's

I'm skeptical that with this in mind prodrive actually went to a more aggressive map for the 2000ecu. Where does the info come from?

Just curious as this would make the 00ppp ecu a worthwhile mod over the 99 one and would be expected to be well known.

LOL, I never said it wasnt a model? I just questioned whether it was a model!!

He he....

Don't worry I have exactly the same response when people say that my WRX300 isnt a model and that its a WRX + PPP!!

Enjoy....

Just curious as this would make the 00ppp ecu a worthwhile mod over the 99 one and would be expected to be well known.

Dave
It was rollered last year by the previous owner. Only mod to engine other than PPP and WR exhaust is an airfilter, it produced 252bhp to be exact, however to get that power you need to run 98ron or better.....

Prodrive advertise the WR package as 240bhp @ 6000rpm and 350nm @ 4000rpm, not the 250bhp that i said, got my spec's slightly wrong i though that was just for PPP.

Insurance is great fun. Only 3 company's knew what it was, Subaru Insured and A-Plan were two of them, can't remember the the other name. Most of the rest accept it as very similar in spec to the RB5 but loose interest as soon as you say it's to WR spec. BTW i agree WRX300 is a model, something i would very much like myself.
