SHOULD I REMOVE TRAY UNDER ENGINE
#1
I would like to know if I should have the platsic drip sort of tray
removed. Ive been told it will allow more air around the engine bay, but does it mean i've got more chance of bits getting damaged
around that area.????????????
I HOPE SOMEONE CAN ADVISE ME
THANKS AGAIN

do not remove it as if you do it will allow water to get at your heat sheild which in turn will rust and then begin to rattle when it does and i can assure you this is a very irritatting noise

I take mine off for track days, for better cooling, but then it goes back on when I change the oil. However, some imports don't have an undertray at all.
Richard.
Edited to add that this question Scoby m8 really belongs in Drivetrain.

Scoby,
I'd recommend taking it off, if only for the sole reason of keeping the oil cooler in the engine, and allowing more heat to escape. Apparently the oil can run as much as 20 degrees hotter with the shielding in place. The only downside is that your engine bay will get dirtier from rain etc.

Kim, lol, it only took me about 12 hours to get it
Matt: you do see a difference in oil temp after you remove it (about 10° in my case), but that may be partially due to the fact that most oil temp sensors are located in the sump plug, probably reading just a tad lower than the temp actually is.
That said: I think I remember a comment from Bob Rawle that it indeed made a difference while tuning and allowed for a bit more ignition advance.
Anyway, I drive without one for a year now with no ill effects so far.
