Default Help Please

Firstly thanks for looking.

I went to look at a 1994 wrx import the other day, all looked fine apart from what i believe is a power steering fluid leak.

Can anybody tell me if this is a common problem and how big a job could it be to fix?

I am going to look at it again on saturday and if the problem isnt too major i will be bringing it home.

Hope you can help

As far as my very limited knowledge goes...

I have had my 95' Jap Import WRX for just over 4 years and the only problem I have had is the power steering oil leak.

I believe its the rubber washer (its a small ring) that can be replaced. With the heat, over time becomes hard and does seal very well.

I had mine replaced but the problem still persists, its not a major issue as far as I am concerned, mine is more of a very slow sludge as oppsed to an obvious leak...

Hope this helps.

There wasnt a lot so it did look like it had been happening over time.

The rest of the car appears to be spot on, ill see if i can get my mechanic to come with me to have a look.

Anyone else have this problem?

Thanks for your reply Tidgy - I expect a couple of bits to be wrong and need a cheap fix ie a tenner and i can live with that, anything bigger and ill be walking home lol

Cheers

Very common problem on early scoobs.
The O-Ring may cure it may not. If it still leaks you will need the whole pump. These can be got for about £65 secondhand. You can also fit the later pump on which is better. I did that on mine and ive had no problem since. Not to bad a job for you to do or about 1 hours labour for a mechanic to do.

mine leaks to (95wrx).

it was leaking when i bought it and still is! 12 months on. i must admit its more sludge than a full blown leak. and it never wants topping up either. its a common fault.

its cheep to repair i shouldnt worry to much about it.

Yes, it's a common problem, it usually means a tiny pool on the
engine block just below it.

It's not a major problem, just keep your eye on the level via the dip stick
in the header.

It gets dryed out and perished due to the heat from the engine.

I really really hope that there is nothing else wrong with it cos i have fallen in love.

What other major things do i need to look out for?

Not worried about minor stuff just things that will cost me loads to fix
