Default Silver Tomcat Accident - Birmingham

I just got home and am still shaken from what has happened to that silver tomcat. It lost control in the roundabout and flew straight onto the side fence. The fence went right through the back seats of the car with 3 passengers inside it. The driver seemed to be alright, the passengers in the back seat were saying that they couldn't feel their legs and had to wait a long time to get the fence out.

Was anyone else present at the scene ?

Near the Bham wheels, dual carrige way where the BP Petrol station is right by the maccies. It happened around 50min ago, I got there before the police or ambulance arrived. The car is most likely still there and I am still shaken by it.

When you say "tomcat" do you mean Rover Coupe?

Regrettably, the Rover Tomcat is now at a stage in its life where any little oik, chav, kid, can buy one for pocket money! Plenty can be had for under £1000, obviously not the mint condition enthusiast's cars, but the run of the mill, messed about with POS we all see on the roads.

Not all the Rover Coupes are actually turbo charged. The naturally aspirated 2 litre 16v is pretty potent, as are the 1600cc Honda and 1600cc and 1800 K Series versions.

As Robert said, he is a member of Rovertech.net, I would like to point out that we have a very good enthusiast's community on Rovertech.net, I doubt the individuals involved in this incident have anything to do with our forum. We have a very prominent anti-street racing policy in our T's & C's and do not encourage such madness on the public highway.

Nothing wrong with having a good spirited drive in the country - you can still stick to speed limits and have a laugh safely enough. And if driving alone, you're not proving anything just having fun.

Myself, personally, I dont drive that quick with passengers in the car.

I've been to a few jobs (as a Firefighter) where cars have left the road and gone through an ordinary wooden fence. The consequences have proved fatal on occasion. As I am sure you can imagine a piece of 2" x 4" coming through the windscreen at 50mph is going to act like a spear. Anything it hits it goes straight through, i.e. - chest cavity, skull, etc.

Something to think about when we are giving it some round the twisties. Hope that didn't sound like a lecture, it wasn't meant to be. Keep it safe !

Regards,
Graeme.

Thats academic. My main emphasis was in the first paragraph. Any chav can get hold of a fast car and kill themselves and others.
