Advice please
Hi all
I am soon to purchase my first Impreza and i'm a little confused as to the true power output of the various models. I've always assumed that 276bhp is fairly standard on unmodified models across the board from the Turbo 2000 to the STi. I'm starting to wonder if i'm mistaken however. Could anyone please advise me as to the correct bhp of a Classic Shape Turbo 2000, WRX and STi and also if the later bug eye and later still models are the same, more or less power.
I'm going to want to spend anything up to about 8k and wonder what I can expect for this sort of money. A latest version import maybe or should I stick with a late Classic shape? There's so much out there and I don't want to choose badly when I know there is a wealth of experience here to ask.
I have a good mechanic that I trust but he doesn't specialise in this type of car so when I do go to buy, what should I look out for - any weaknesses in the various models. Your advice will be much appreciated.

Thank you for that. It seems then that the Turbo 2000 is a little less powerful than I first thought. Is it a lot of work and modding to get up to around 270 bhp or is a simple engine re-map and a chip going to do the job?

Changed the front exhaust downpipe, and the panel filter and then had it remapped - 272bhp.
So not much work no.
Cost:
JR panel filter - £40
Scoobyworld Ninja Sports Cat downpipe - £299
Remap (Ecutek Tek3) - £658 (included 3 port boost solenoid).
So about a grand basically.
Alternatively, get yourself a nice import WRX 2000 model for about £6k that as standard has 276bhp:

Think thats a bargain, but noone seems to want it.
