Default need help on a couple of things

I have a jap saloon what are the things above the windows there for do they stop wind noise. In you opinion do they look better on or off.

I can smell oil some times but cant find where it is coming from as far i no it does not leak.

Thanks a lot

The deflectors are there to make the car more aerodynamic and ultimately will contribute to a reduction in wind noise. They are there for practical purposes as opposed to cosmetic ones. In 'my' opinion I think they look okay so leave them on. On the oil issue you need to be more specific, can you smell it in the car or out?

Possibly oil being dragged into the intake (via intercooler). Is it most noticeable on start up? Easy check is to remove hose from intercooler to throttle body and check for oil on iside of hose and intercooler.

If it's a slight smell when usually coming to a stop, it'sa leaky rocker cover gasket. Depending on which side it is, it can be quite easy to do, but will either involve removing the airbox or the screen wash bottle.

Usually caused by oil dripping onto the exhaust. Had it on my MY95. Didn't take too much notice until I went to my dealer and saw a beautiful white STI Type R with a very black, scorched bonnet. Caused by a leaking rocker cover gasket that had caught fire!!

I'm NOT scare-mongering, but if it is thism then look to getting it sorted sooner rather than later
