Just picked up my new car on Fiday (My06 WRX euro import). I was suprised to say the least when the dealer didn't have the log book for the car and said it would be sent on.

Is this normal?
any idea how long it will take?

Also didn't have the service book and said I would need to send off for this once I get the log book. This is a bit concerning especially as the car will need it's 1000 mile service in about a weeks time after driving from Nottingham to Aberdeen.

Any help apprieciated

Normal ? Yes if it was pre-registered. This means that the dealer that you bought it from has got a big discount, that he has passed on to you. The problem is though that the car will be registered in their name. When you get the V5 form, you will be the second owner.

How long ? They have to hold onto it for about 6 months.

when I bought the car they guaranteed that I wold be the first registered keeper so hopefully won't have to wait that long.

I'm now more concerned about the service book as i've already done 650 miles.

Love the car though, far better drive than my old M3 on for day to day driving on the roads up here.

You normally have to wait, as has been said, if it was a pre-reg.

Normally 3-6 months ... and you will not be the first registered keeper.

It's all about big discounts - it's happening on the new MX5 - they will sell it to you at Cost Price to them .... so they can get their BIG bonuses.

The bonuses are worth MUCH more than any profit on the car ......

The invoice clearly states the I'll be the first registered keeper. This was the main reason for using this particular dealer, so I will very P*ssed off if the car turns out to be pre-registered.

If it was BIG then you have a Pre-Reg........ nothing wrong with that, the clever money goes down that route!!

You don't get the log book when you buy a new car - it normally comes through direct from the DVLA a couple of weeks later.

My advice is to contact DVLA at the earliest opportunity and make sure they have a record of your car and that the dealer has notified them of the sale.
When I bought mine, the log book took about 4 months to come from DVLA as they claimed that Motorpoint hadn't sent them the paperwork ! However I didn't need the log book to obtain the service / warranty book - this was sent on by Motorpoint within a couple of weeks - if it's a Euro import, your service / warranty book should come from the originating dealer - I would try and get your dealer to source this for you - looks like he's passing the buck. Mine came from Malta and my warranty is with Subaru Malta.

This is correct.

I got my EU import from Alliance last year.

2 weeks later log book arrived with me a first keeper.

2 weeks after that service book from Subaru Cyprus with my details in it- however some have bought from other places and have had to chase for this.

So dont panic if you bought from Alliance !!

If you bought from motorpoint (or some of the others) - start chasing your service book.

No problem with Motorpoint - the service / warranty book came thro within 2 weeks...........

Since you have to pay for the 1000 mile service on a non-uk car any way, it doesn't really matter. Get the service done and it will be recorded on the dealer's system. Get the details entered into the service book when it arrives.
