this may sound like a stupid question but is it possible to fit a ecu from a uk impreza turbo,to fit on my sti-ra import,to allow it run safely on uk fuels???

Is there such thing as a UK spec STi? If you fitted say a WRX or 2000 Turbo ECU you'ed loose some serious performance.

Better off getting it remapped, a much safer option.

i've spoken to ggr and power-engineering,both say its difficult to remap my car because its a 96 model?

No AFAIK crank sensors etc are different and the car wont start.

so it deffo can't be remapped then?

No, 97/98 ecu's cant be mapped, earlier ecu's can be chipped (scoobyecu), your either better just adding octane booster (which is recommended) and a knocklink or going for something like the apexi.
(think there may be a group buy on these?)
