Default Cold scoob power problems?

I was in the pub tonight and when i left it was very cold (-2) and this particular pub you pull out onto a single carriageway 60mph road typical country road. anyway its the car park exits onto this road on a bad corner for example if you pull out leisurly and some one comes pelting round the corner doing 60+ there could be a nasty accident.

my car is a wrx300 ie 05 wrxppp and when i left the pub my car was very cold. it had only been running for a minute when i pulled on to this road so was still stone cold. wasnt planning on wizzing home as i alway warm up properly especially when icey cold outside. to my luck when i pulled out leisurly a car came blitzing round the corner. i spotted it out of the very corner of my eye just as i pulled out so i had to boot it a little. the car just felt totally wrong. did not pick up properly at all. went to 5K in 1st and 2nd then straight into 5th gear and thought something was wrong. the boost was very juddery and just did not pull like norm. i went for a bit of a drive and warmed up properly then had a few more blasts and it was better but still felt different in some way.

is something wrong or am i worrying over nothing? only had it 2 days

I do i promise! its just i shat it when this car came round the bend and reaction was to put foot down. I just wouldnt have thought that the cold would effect the car as much as it did. it was almost as if there was no boost. was better after a few miles but it gave me a shock.

Does this only occur when cold now? if not it sounds like it could be something else poss maf or coil packs playing up?

like i say mate i have only had it 2 days and have been astonished at the power and pick up of the car. tonight when i first set off, the car just wasnt being like that. as i say it got better when warm but didnt seem right. probably just me worrying. il try taking her for a good spin tomorrow.

i have no idea what a maff sensor is, nor do i know what a coil pack is sorry! im a 20 year old student with no mechanical expertise what so ever. after thrashing the **** off a c2 for 2 years and having no trouble with it i have never had the need to know. i want to learn about my car and the mechanicals though

mate you dont know how much of a headache it has been. The limited edition wrx300 that was released last summer is the only scoob turbo that can be insured under 21 with out going to a specialist. i was only wanting a std wrx but was quoted over 6K. as if i was going to go for that. got a shock when i on elephant/admirals site and they quoted me just under 2K on the "300" but would not give me a price for any other scoob even the standard wrx. the "300" also has ppp so bonus as far as im concerned.

I have done my reading on here about warming up process and as i said at the top i wasnt planning on doing what i did but the reaction of these headlights coming at me all of a suddernd forced me to give it some.

it must just have been fookin cold the poor thing

I was paying £1800 tpf&t at 23 so i know what a pain in the **** they are to insure . Seeing as you have only owned the car a few days it is probablly paranoia but if the problem persists get it to a garage asap as it is still under warranty

To put your mind at rest, your car is performing exactly as it should do. As an engine safety feature, we have restricted the boost when the engine is cold so that it can't be overloaded before it's warmed up. Basically we don't allow any wastegate duty until a certain water temperature has been reached and as this makes it obvious that the performance isn't the same it's an unmissable reminder to the driver that the engine's still cold. It'll still give more power than a std car (although not as much torque) so it's hardly slow in comparison to 'normal' cars and it shouldn't be an issue for most people

Thats good to hear. hopefully i wont be in that situation again anyway. car is performing its self again today. I thought it may have been a fuel starvation problem or something but obviously not. It was a demonstrator and no doubt had been run on NUL for the 6k miles that were on it when i got it. I have brimmed her with optimax now anyway so hopefully shes will like that
