Default STi without intercooler spray?

I've been looking at an Sti as a possible purchase, it's a MY97 V3 saloon. It looks absolutely great other than one thing that I find a little strange. The seller (a specialist importer) says it doesn't have an intercooler spray, as it has ABS instead and the ABS unit sits in the same place as the spray, so it's either or. However I'm sure I've seen loads of STis with both the spray and ABS...

So is he right, or is there something strage about it not having an intercooler spray? Other than that it looks very much like a genuine STi, right model #, right interior, red top engine, right decals etc etc.

Thanks

jap imports seem to be very funny for what they have and dont have.

but best advice to give if there is any doubt, walk away, plenty of them around

I think it's just the Type R or RA that have the water spray. Not 100% sure though.

The only thing with ABS is that the cars with the adjustable differential don't have it.

People keep telling me there's plenty of them around but having been looking for a few weeks I beg to differ But then I am particularly fussy with condition, mileage, and more specifically price Other than the lack of intercooler spray I have no doubts about the car, I can't see it not being a genuine STi as everything else is spot on.

From what I've seen all Sti are supposed to have the IC spray though - certainly all those I've looked at so far have...

It is the one off Ebay I'm usually very wary of Ebay, however this isn't a private sale it's from a specialist import garage and the car comes with 6 months warranty. He's also sent me a copy of the Japanese auction report and a photo of the engine so everything looks spot on other than the lack of intercooler spray... The link is as follows - any opinions appreciated

Looks like an STi to me matey - No water spray cos it's not an RA.

No closed deck block either.

No matter where I was buying the car from, Id check the Applied Model Number. This is the only certain and absolute confirmation of the vehicles correct model. The suffix for this car should be 4ED.

I was under the impression that the WRX STi version 3 only had 2-pot front callipers and the WRX STi Type RA had the 4-pot callipers.

You can't tell what it has from those pictures.
