10 years ago I had a tankful of JET in an old Escort that was so bad the car ground to a halt, the carburetter was knackered which didn't help. Suspect water in the fuel. Never went to that garage or ever bought JET again.

yep I had this a few days ago with esso super (unusual as usually I find it the most consistent)
It gave me more knock on my fc commander than normal morrisons unleaded.
Think I will be avoiding this for a while and will use either optimax or texaco super unleaded

Some time ago a mate had his car remapped and luckily had Knocklink fitted. Once he got home filled it up with Optimax at a Local Petrol station. He then was getting really Bad det, red flashing lights even on low power. He complained to the Mapper who suggested refilling at another station. He went to another fairly Local Optimax station and still getting the same problems
He drove carefully back to the Mapper said that it seemed to be running on 95ron or less once it was refueled with Optimax at his location all was well The Mapper said it's likely that the problems arose because both Petrol stations were served by the same Tanker.

I had this problem. I was driving about 3-4 hours after filling my tank and started feeling that the car was labouring a bit and not really pulling as hard as it normally does (04 WR1) ... when I took the car in for a service the next day I mentioned it to the dealer and they at a look into it. The result was that my ECU had gone into some sort of safe mode or something along those lines which limited the boost ... after a reset and a tank drain everything seemed fine and back to normal.

Although he did say that it wasn't a major issue if they hadn't drained the tank because the ECU would have reset itself and the car would have been back to normal after I filled up again.

Clever things eh!

Basic jist of the above (per my dealer) is that it does happen but isn't the end of the world. Those silly little knocklink sensors (on a standard ish car) are like reading the medical disease directory - you'll always find that you have the symptoms to some weird disease that will kill you within 2 months.

I have never had a bad batch of 95ron

yet have suffered from bad batches of 97ron and 98ron optimax.

I suspect and theorise the reason is that the higher octane fuels; being more expensive get used less and thus you risk getting stagnated fuel - as the tanks get re-filled much less so the tanks don't get refreshed and stirred up with nice clean fresh fuel.

Plus you can't get much worse than 95ron..except for diesel

I filled up from the Jet in Dalkeith. (LRP for my monty turbo) about 25miles down the road the car started knocking and it just got louder and louder. I blame that engine's death on bad fuel.

It's more to do with MON rating than it is to do with RON ratings
for most Subaru drivers (pissy excluded)

Have found out from a friend who works at the petrol station that they did have a contaminated batch due to a fault with the tanker!

Bad petrol is apparently a bigger reason for dropped performance than whether you run your car on SUL or normal.

Evo mag did an interesting article a month ago showing power/torque curves of each of the petrol grades and compared them to a racing fuel. All performed well but the biggest reason for any dropped performance was a bad batch of fuel.

They recommend using more popular petrol stations as the fuel is likely to be fresher as it can go off if stored too long.

All the best

Yep, my WRX has suffered from bad batches of petrol too.
The first time it happened, I thought something had broken on the car - there was an instant drop in performance as I pulled off the forecourt. A few tanks later, and it was back to normal.

Had the same thing happen a couple of times since. If I find myself needing fuel and can only find a petrol station off the beaten track, I now tend to put in 95 + OB, rather than risk SUL.

The thing that stinks the most is, that you pay a premium for SUL, and yet sometimes it seems no better or even worse than 95!!
