cossie owner to scooby?

cossie owner to scooby?
first off, hi all, i currently own a 2wd 420bhp sapphire cossie, its cost me 5k in a year and a half on rebuilds and repairs,(and it still isn't right) so i have now decided enough is enough and it will be getting sold in the near future, as fast as it is, the car will be used as my daily driver, so needsto be reliable, i will be getting a classic shape scooby, (wish i had bought one in the first place) i am after a 4 door wrx sti. but i would like to know a few things:
1. will a modded scooby be as unreliable as my cossie?
2. has your modded scooby been reliable?
3. what kind of power would a scooby have to run to get similar performance to my cossie? (given the 4 x 4 transmission loss)
4. how many miles to the gallon will a modded scoob do, driven sensibly?
thanks
bill
ps. anywhere i can find out about models/specs to narrow down which car to get?
cheers

Ive done exactly what youre asking mate,
I went from a 343bhp 350lbsft 4x4 saff cos to a standard 02 WRX STI prodrive.
My saff run on 17s
0-60 in 4.2sec
0-100 in 10.9 sec
standing qtr in 12.5 @ 110mph and run on to over 170mph on GPS
My saff was MUCH MUCH faster, than the scoob. However i love the drive in the scoob, the noise, the way it feels on the road and with a few mods i will see similar power figures.
I cant comment on your reliability issues as my cossie engine was built for over 400bhp and never once let me down... ever in over 18 months.
The scoob is a much nicer package in my opinion and as far as im aware you'll have very few reliability issues with a well looked after impreza.
Few things will feel as fast as a 420bhp 2 wheeler mate but then again you wont have your bonnet up at the side of the road half as often.
My advise would be get yourself a light classic maybe a type R and get it to about 330bhp.
It will be fun and reasonably reliable if looked after.
Test drive a few and make your decisions from there.
Hope that helps

Hi,
1. No, not if its done correctly and looked after properly.
2. Yes
3. What kind of performance are you talking about? 1/4 mile times?
Getting 420bhp out of a Scoob aint cheap, but Id say a 420bhp scoob would destroy the cossie. Last year, my 320ish bhp Type R did a 12.65 at Elvington, oh, and I left a cossie for dead (although Im not sure what bhp it was)
4. Scoob... drive sensibly... why? LOL On a serious note, probably about
23ish (motorway driving @ 80 - 85mph)
It could do with updating but as you mention, you're after a classic:

no mate a type R is a Jap import and is a 2 door only as far as im aware.
Its the jap version of a P1.
If its definitly a 4 door youre after then a late sti will be more up your street. Maybe a late version 5 or 6.
Im not really that up on the classic shape versions as id like to be but there are plenty of helpful faces around here who will point you in the right direction.

Yes they are. My friends states that his will do 145MPH. But he bought his quite well speced and that could be why. Others on here would be able to give u a more definitive answer. You could always rectify this at a later date tho. As apart from that it would apear to be wt u are looking for.

Bill,
If its a 4 door you have to have, the one to go for is def an Type RA STi. The Type R is a 2 door only, as someone correctly pointed out but its not a Jap version of the P1. The P1 is a watered down Type R <zips up flamesuit> with limited production run of 1000. Dont get me wrong, I love P1's but the Type R is a little bit more edgy... which I like
Get an RA, you'll be very impressed Im sure.
All the best and welcome to SN

Chances are that bill here is new to the land of scoobs and would more than likely know about a P1 as opposed to a type R.
I was more trying to point out that they are similar,
Thats how i based my comparisson.
Jay is right though mate, try the RA

I'm an ex rs500 owner, The cossie was animal but kept tryin to throw me into the scenery all the time.
I now have a new WRX with a p Pack and a few other bits and its a really nice car as either a daily driver or a blaster!!!! Plus a few mate have your other alternative, EVO, and they seen to suffer from the same cossie reliability syndrome!!!

thanks for your comments/advice guys, you seem to be pointing me in the direction of a ra sti, i was on the verge of getting a 2 door type r just before i bought the **** heap,( sorry i mean sapphire ) but for some unknown reason i opted for a cossie, anyway, time to look ahead now, i've got used to having a large 4 door saloon, so the sti ra fits the bill perfectly,
could someone post me a pic up of one please
cheers
