Talking New Forester Boy in the House...........

Now Then Guys and Gals, May i say a big hello to all! I've just joined the forum after purchasing a 2000 Subaru Forester S Turbo on the 17th, and what do i think of it? It's the Dogs Nuts! Absolutely top fun to drive.......

Whilst I'm now Selling my Nissan Skyline to pay for the Forester (The Boss, Corinna, says i have to to pay for the wedding.....) I'm now driving around in the Scoob and making the most of it's ability to win Traffic light GP's, usually with estate agents.......

The car i had before the Liner was a 1997 Scoob Turbo Classic Wagon which i loved to death also.

Can I ask a couple of Newbie questions whilst i'm here guys?

Whats the largest Alloys i can fit to the forester on Std suspension please? (I think the Rim Width is 7.5J and offset 45 but assuming i have low profile tyres, like i've just spread the rubber onto the rim with a knife!..... what's the largest diameter please?)

Does anyone know where i can get a rear spoiler, poss Sti type to fit onto it? The back end needs livening up a bit!

Have Fun!

There are a few of us skulking around here, ranging from UK XTs, Import St/bs and one or two full Sti Foresters

Some are now putting out some serious HP, as in 300+

Like Mog said get over to www.subaruforester.org and check out the European section

and

Welcome

Hi mate and welcome - make sure you post some pics - there's a Forester thread around somewhere, I'll try and find it and give it a bit of a bump

As for wheels - I've got 18"'s on mine as do the Forester Sti's. I wouldn't go any bigger as they will look a bit daft imo and ruin the ride and handling..

Subaru do some styling bits for the Forester but the aftermarket scene is a bit limited - I believe zerosports do some stuff if you want to google it but it's not cheap..

Cheers
Pete

What about 19" alloys on a Forester as Danny did?

Largest fitted alloys I know are 20" by some nutty Aussies , but 18" is more sensible .

Welcome to the enlightened corner of subaru ownership

Roof Spoiler is Part No. E7210VE000 available from your local dealer at £130 unpainted

A few things that will come up:

Rear anti roll bars from either a classic Impreza or an aftermarket one (such as Whiteline) will improve the handling.

Stevem is organising a group buy on ww.subaruforester.org for Whiteline lowered springs.

You're right an offset of ET48 is ideal, but upto ET45 is fine. I'm sure I've seen 8" wide wheels and rubber on a classic Forester.

Subaru dealers will have rear spoilers available for the classic Forester.

[Forester S/Tb with standard spoiler closest to camera, and my S Turbo with the dealer option behind]

Hayward and Scott make a very good quality Forester backbox. As a side issue, the centre section and downpipe from a classic Impreza will fit your car.

Also if you are after a panel filter, then use one from any Impreza, and as you have a MY00 Forester, the air inductor will be the same as a MY99/00 Impreza. Also a MY99/00 dump valve will fit your year of car.

Injectors are 380cc, so you can uprate to MY99/00 Impreza 440cc injectors.

Your car will have standard 2-pot brakes at the front, so they can be uprated with 4 pot brakes, which are standard on MY99 and newer Imprezas.

Side indicators are the same as the new age Imprezas.

Strut braces from an Impreza will fit in the front, but I'm sure SteveM can clarify if the rear one is the same as the Impreza.

As everyone else has said, most of us use the European section of the SubaruForester.org forum

Rear brace is the same as a classic impreza. Cusco one can be fitted in 15mins...

Td04 turbo is available for peanuts and would give you an even bigger grin

( See, 3 hours since the original post and we've already helped you spend 2 grand )

I knew I'd forget something!!

The standard turbo on the Forester S Turbo is a TD035, which the smallest turbo used in the Subaru range.

If you are modifying it, I think you will be limited to about 230bhp with supporting modifications.

Going up to the TD04 (from the MY97-present UK Impreza & UK WRX, early JDM WRX and JDM Foresters) will give you potentially up to 280bhp with supporting modifications.

Talking

Wow, bloody hell! Serious amounts of top info guys, cheers!

I was looking at td04 turbo upgrade, i'm a bit of an Ebay nut and i've seen some good deals on Td04's......

Now here's a cracking question, will the Td04 go straight in without too many mods? (until the wedding's done and dusted in November i'm gonna have to keep the mods on a "reasonably" tight budget - reasonably in the eyes of my accountant/future wife like.........)
Also will putting a TD04 in mean i need to put a larger/ modified intercooler aswell as an ECU re-map and also, whilst my brains still sparking ...the 440 injectors?

I think in the thread you've pretty told me everything i wanted to know, even the stuff i wanted to know but did ask on the intro!!! Ok, who's the mindreader (or whose been sleeping with the missus to get info?!?!)

I like the look of the dealer option Spoiler and i was curious if i could fit the 19" Oz superleggras on the standard suspension that danny's got, they look awesome!

Once this threads finished i'll get my butt over to Subaruforester.org and register there!

Turbo is TF035, two sizes fitted, pre 01 has the smaller turbine housing (A/R of 4) later 01on is A/R of 6, that will have a bhp limit of about 230, the earlier blower a bit less (probably about 210).

That looks like an Impreza STI CMAX

Nice motor though I must admit. What's the 0-60 on it? Must be quite heavy despite the power?

Not that much heavier than the Impreza tbh - 0-62 for the stock 230ps FXT is 6 secs so hope mine would be under 5..
