Question

Hi, using octane booster in a standard P1 with SUL, is it a good idea or not? What would the effects of long term use be? will it help the car in the long run?

Opinions guys n' gals would be greatly appreciated.

thanxs

Guess these P1's are designed to run on 97 RON. If you increase the RON with Octane Booster, you will be able to advance your ignition timing, releasing more power. Well i say 'you will be able to' - depends if the ECU is programmable, and if you can be asked to mess with it...

Cool

Yep, it will run better, the ECU does not need reprogramming, it will "sus out" itself that the fuel quality is better, engine will also run smoother and fuel consumption should improve slightly? (Dependant upon using a good quality Octane Booster) such as Millers Octane + from a reputable supplier like Scooby Mania.

Hi

I use Millers Octane + from Scoobymania. The bottles are uniform in size and the liquid is always free flowing - nice!

I wouldn't mind buying it by the gallon and decanting it myself into the Svarowski crystal decanter I have - one does need to make an effort and keep up with these outwardly more affluent BMW drivers after all

I need to make it cheaper MIKE!

We've tried a few.. This one works..

Dubious benefit on my exhaust are the rather excellent blue flames that come out on over-run (sorry Kev... hope your bumpers ok! ).. I like it tho!

Another shameless plug. I like Mikes style!

Raggy - I used Millers once and didn't really notice a difference in performance. Here's a quote from sidc (http://www.sidc.co.uk) ...

"Beware of octane boosters, as many contain lead or lead-like substances which will damage the catalytic convertor and oxygen (Lambda) sensor.."

Thought this may help

Catalytic Convertors? What are they then?

Thanks TSL

cheers guys, I've bought some millers, going to give it a go.
(The power of advertising Mike!)
It says it's cat safe so should be ok. If the cat blows up, no great loss I suppose.

I have gone off millers.

even when my turbo came back from turbo dynamics after being balanced etc, it still had all the yellow crap from the millers (manganese something) all over the blades.

I know it does no damage, but i would rather it wasnt there.
