Default Whats Going on with Optimax? can anyone help?

I was an Optimax devotee, would go to silly lengths to get it, I tried BP Ultimate, and wow the car really responded, is this down to the fact that the car has the PPP and Im guessing here, that the timing has been adjusted to 97 RON when at Prodrive........or are they now putting normal unleaded into the optimax pumps?......with the result of us being ripped off?? the difference was quite something really with the BP Ultimate more responsive more power and the car felt better to drive, my car is an STi 05 model year with PPP........is their some scullduggery going on at Shell??

Regards to all who read this

I have the same car, and when they ran out of Optimax, I went to BP Ultimate. What I found was that when on Ultimate, I had a stronger mid range, but not as strong top end as compared to Optimax. Had considered staying with Ultimate, but as it costs more, I went back to Optimax.

Would be interested to know what the PPP is mapped for. I always thought it had been mapped for 98Ron Optimax. Anyone know better ??

Their are varying views on the quality of Ultimate and one very well
known mapper has been known to say that, "He would'nt use it in his
lawnmower"

I on the other hand have found Ultimate to be superb and will continue
to use it, as that's all I can get around by me.

I have a Tesco store/garage a stones throw from me, but no sign
of 99RON yet, I think it will be a while before it hits the Midlands

There have been some similar complaints about Optimax since the refinery fire.

I'm starting to get starting cold running problems with the Tesco 99 now. Shell have changed to JET, so it looks like I'll be going to BP shortly.

I tend to stick to Optimax. To get anything other than normal unleaded requires a 30 mile round trip.

Running on Optimax plus 3-point booster just now and its really noticable. The car just wants to go.

awesome

Around here the local BP garage is selling Ultimate at 101p and the shell garage is selling Optimax at 91p. No brainer .....

I went from Optimax (what the car was mapped for) to Tesco 99 and the car feels more responsive, especially midrange.

Shell's V Power
It is 100 Octane and we used it a few times in Germany during last Summer. There seemed no improvement over a decent 98 Octane fuel.

Certainly, both our 05 STi UK PPP and Hirsch modded Saab 9-5 Estate run far better on Optimax (and even Total 98 SUL) than Ultimate. Evo's test a couple of issues back said Scoobs ran better on Optimax and Evos on Ultimate, so I guess it's whatever works best for you and your car. If you feel it's better, it is!

Hirsch specify 98 for the Saab (210bhp/320Nm) and don't recommend using 97 at all.

Cheers

Have been using the NOS Street Formula. Everyone seems to like different boosters and the NOS stuff was recommended to me.

I certainly notice a difference when using Optimax plus booster. The car feels much more responsive and the power seems to come on smoother.

However, I have since been recommended Millers so I might give that a try once I get the decat done.

Talking

Would I be strange if I told you I never noticed a significant difference?
