Default Calling All Police

Hello,

The other night i was pulled in hampshire by a road traffic car. Before i start this is no way a dig at the police because from my expenerance ive only been told off if ive been doing wrong which is fair enough ! But on this occassion i think mayb this time he was wrong

Its basically about a number plate, which ended up me with a 30 quid fine

The reason he gave for the fine, was it didnt match the regelations law. Because it was none reflective , so i didnt argue and let him issue the fine, but since ive relised that old cars, and motor bikes dont requir front number plates, and also the front one isnt reflective anyway is it ?

heres a picture, if anyone could help advise please do cause if im right i will appeal against the fine and buy that front mount intercooler im after , Heres the plate in question :

The lettering, is exactly the same size as a standard number plate, if not a little larger! But it is stuck onto the bumper but still very clear to see . If theres any police on this forum could you please let me know

Thank You, Harv'z

The cop who was driving id also like to mention was the nicest bloke ive spoke to, let alone a cop! But his colleage really had a bad attitude, but i guess thats understandable with their job

Does it not have to be pointing up the road instead of at the sky?

So what ive done is still illegal ?

If thats the case then it looks like a sqaure one im going to need for the front number plate over the fogs! as i cant be dealing with the hassle from small plates, and also getting a FMIC soon and dont want to obstruct it

It's an interesting question. There are a fair few classic motors around that have similar 'stuck on' number platest because of their curved narrow front ends with no room for a plate. We used to run our old Beetle around with only a rear plate, and it never attracted any comment from coppers at all. It may be one of those things where it's ok not to have one, but if you do it has to comply with the regs. Other examples of this are:
Running without a spare wheel is ok, but a deflated or damaged one is an offence.
You can take the seatbelts out of the back as long as you take the back seats out as well.

Its the angle as much as anything - apparently they cant pick up the plate clearly on photographs if they are laying flat like that.

Certain cars ( E-Type for example ) get away with it as there is nowhere to mount the plate, but I'm pretty sure you have to have them mounted properly if its possible on that model of car.

You can take the windscreen wipers off if you remove the windscreen too!!!!!

I think bonnet plates must be something to do with the age of the car and the legislation in place at the time - bit like seatbelt laws...it's a shame ...

If people accepted that a standard number plate is a legal requirement and not a fashion or style statement then life would be a lot simpler.
People should be able to read one night or day without the need to squint and take into account spacing, font style, size and coloured fixings
