Euro Import
Looking at changing my STi8 for a new MY06 Sti in the near future.
Been looking at Litchfields website where a new Euro STi is £4k cheaper than a UK supplied.
Are there any downsides to buying a Euro model? Will my local dealer service it? Will my local dealer PPP it?
Also insurance, would I own an STi Type UK or do I also have to say its a euro import - does this effect the premiums etc..
I just cant help thinking there must be a catch for a saving of £4k.
Cheers for any advise.

Uro import just needs cat 1 alarm and wheel nuts to make uk spec no problem insuring (Privilege) same as Uk car cant have PPP (without voiding warranty) no probs servicing providing its been registered with IM (Subaru UK) see other threads re this point but should be ok if not buying from car supermarket no catch just slightly different service intervals

import
I bought my scooby import in Sept shortly afterwards there were concerns about warranty issues. Since Dec12 2005 that has now been resolved, anybody that buys an import will have the same warranty as a UK buyer .
My insurance company ( Norwich Union) did not ask me if it was an import and I certainly did not tell them .
Servicing would not be an issue, if it is then you contact Subaru Uk who have had a run in with the EU authorities so they should be co-operative.
Normally all imports do not allow PPP , but the Uk market does.
The saving is geniune we in England just keep getting ripped off.
Hope this helps .

You should tell your insurer, but it won't effect the premium, as long as it is a full UK spec car.
Expect a slightly lower resale value vs a UK 'supplied' car, it's value on the used market reflects the fact that you paid a little less for it in the first place.

That said, when this last come up on s'net (bring back search!!) some owners said they had PPP done on their EU imports, so maybe the rules have changed?, worth asking your local dealer..

They had 3 categories: UK, European Union, Import. They were trying to convince me that mine was an import, not an EU car.
So after hanging up 3 times, to finally speak to someone with some common knowledge (at least to ask their supervisor) i got a quote back cheaper than my original Type UK quote. Bonus! (Had to swap to A Plan though a few months in to cover my mods, plus Admiral would not insure the PPP mod!)

So talking of resale values.
My MY03 Sti euro import will be 3 years old in march.
It has 18,000 miles (Defi's/19" alloys/FSH/1 owner/log book says 'Type UK')
How much is it worth? (It's Black so worth more )
How much is it worth had it been an official 'Type UK'
Doubt the difference is anywhere near 4K!

When i bought mine, the guy genuinely (or at least he said ) didn't know it was a Eu import. He knocked off an extra £800 and i got it for about £1000 less than equivalent Type UKs in the 'trader. Nowhere near the 3k difference when new.
And yes the blacks are worth more, i defo think so. If it was a newage for me (wifey wanted classic wagon), then it was either black or silver. Black it was!!
I don't think people will mind, if it's a minter, you explain about insurance, warranty, servicing etc. Plus, someone who's buying yours, with the mods, will probably be the wiser anyway.
Got any pics for us of the defi's and wheels???
(If you want to return it to standard, i'll buy the defi's off you )

Not for sale, just curious.
I saved over £3K off UK prices. Knowing that after 3 years and no warranty left there would not be a £3K price difference. If anything this car has more service history than a UK car as the service intervals are closer although I am now servicing it as a 'UK' car
No pix of the defi's on my work computer

I will definitely consider this when I change but bit of a pain re the PPP.
So actually, PPP costs £6k! £4k saving by buying a euro import plus £2k for PPP.

Well not everyone is bothered about PPP especially since you will end up paying more on insurance. You could always upgrade to a euro STI if you want more performance and still have a saving
