Default MY 03/04 Sti buyers guide

I have owned my MY02 WRX for a year now and enjoyed every minute of it with the exception of one small detail..........I wish i'd bought an STI

This weekend i'm viewing a few STI's and am wondering if there are any specific problems to the STI version i should be looking out for.
I will be looking at MY03 & 04 uk cars.

Any pointers will be most appreciated.

Nik

Think my car has had the two most prevelent problems:

Battery going flat
Rear struts needing replacement

Both replaced under warranty.

If you are after PPP ensure there is a Prodrive certificate to back it up.

knocking noise coming from rear suspension is the most common thing - due to the strut being 'sticky' - a few very nice JDM stis availble at the mo - more bang for the buck

I haven't...as far as i know. (Type EU). How do you know anyway? Is it just a knocking or does it effect the driving.

(What with the stereo turned up so loud - as recommended to disguise the creaks/rattles from the dash due to Prodrive springs. I doubt i'd hear it anyway!)

Try and avoid dealers - they tend to sell over priced cr@p. I found mine through a fellow S-Net user. That way, I got far more history about the car!!! I paid £17,000 about three months ago for an MY04 STI Type UK, with TSL 333 (330bhp), Gold 18" PFF7 's, Prodrive springs, front and rear strut braces and fast road geometry set up with 13,600 miles on the clock, 1 owner, mint, mint, mint. No problems with mine at all appart from it is too fast!!! I can live with it though!!! I was advised that these are very reliable cars and the only problems are those noted above i.e. batteries (possibly due to Trackers) and rear knocking. Interestingly enough, my car has not suffered from either.Good luck and by the way, look around and do not buy the first one you see - remember there are loads out there and it is a buyers market.

I'm going to view a my03(53) 17k on the clock for 15950 in black tomorrow.
Hopefully chip away at the screen price untill i'm a very happy boy come saturday night. Failing that im keeping the trusty WRX and buying a Honda CBR600 to compliment her

Not being funny but for £50 quid more £16K gets mine
Black 04 54 with less than £14k miles - a year younger lower mileage a years extra peace of mind plus a prodrive rearbox
is this not a better deal?
cheers Paul.

My rears and my front struts have been replaced.

Same fault but different symptoms, the rears stick and the fronts went loose.

Why not buy the first one? If you're more than happy. I have done with several cars.

Ha ha Gaz!!!

You know what I mean, it is easy to fall in love with a dog!!! I am just saying to be careful and not buy a dog. Obviously if you see a belter first, grab it with both hands!!
