cheaper insurance for a Uk car - Import wont be running the 240bhp due to lower grade fuel in the UK. Import only has 1 cat, Uk has 2 (i think)

Import will prob have air con, Uk will have crap seats compaired to the jap version.

Uk will have more history than jap one, jap version will prob have colour coded wing mirrors and electric folding.

I bought a UK version and i wouldn't part with it for a jap spec. you know it makes sence.

what age import are you looking at?? 1993??

i bought my UK 1995 N reg car in dec 04 for 2600.

They aint really going or that much, but then they do say it becomes cheap b4 it becomes a classic so fingers crossed it will be on the increase.

insurance wise. 25years old 5yrs ncb, clean licence. £480 fc tesco.

Import insurance £800 tpft. could be cheaper but then i havent searched as i'm not interested.

My advice would be to go to a well recommended dealer as there are some ropey imports about (but theres some lovely ones about too!)
Imports have electric mirrors and rear wash wipe , but like Will says a lot of them have no service history.
Bought my Ver1 STI import (from a decent dealer) and had no probs (touch wood)!

Uk turbo. was completly standard when i bought it, it had under 80k, with a prodrive interior package (mcrae series recaros) i really hit it lucky, sold my old car on a sat morn at 10am, by noon i had found one on ebay, phoned the guy up, (48years old) and travelled 260 miles to get it, was completly as described.

i really cant see the advantage of buying an import of that age, i can understand if its an sti your after as you could obviously only get them in JP, but not a basic wrx. After all the differences between them are quite small and no boubt your thinking wrx as it has more power than a UK car standard (only just) but at the cost of a more aggressive map which isnt ideally suited to uk fuel.

If thats what your going to base your purchase on (what power it has) then go for the uk car. a simple full decat exh system, filter of some kind and a scoobyecu chip or the like and your car will have shed loads more poke.

servicing will be no more expensive as i'm sure it wont be scheduled subaru intervals that the car will be following, fuel consumption on the other hand will be higher in the Jap version!!

My advice would be to buy the version which you can afford/are prepared to maintain. Both have plus and minus points, it all depends how much power you want.

A uk car has either 208/215bhp or 250bhp with Prodrive pack when using super unleaded. No rear wiper, possibly more service history and cheaper to insure

An import (WRX, STi, R, RA) has 237bhp up to 276bhp. Rear wiper, possibly no service history, aircon/climate. Would need to be run on octane booster or remapped for uk fuel. More than likely dearer to insure. Generally more toys.

i would like to run it with a exhaust/filter/chip and what ever support mods they need

what sort of millage would you get from a full tank at sensible driving(how much does it take to fill the tank)

i have just put a full tank of petrol in my s13 200sx and its only running with a k&n induction kit , it cost 45 to fill and i am on quarter and its only done 110 miles. This was done with driving sensibly and i think that is pretty poor
