camera identification
Travelling down adual carriageway today at 85 when I went past what I assume to be a mobile speed trap in a layby. It was a transit sized vehichle with a striped rear, it had two open panels where the rear windows should be with two cameras, one in each opening,it was forward facing and didnt flash, was this a speed trap?
If it was like this....

...then it may have been an ANPR (auto number plate recognition) checking for tax/insurance etc. Speed camera vans usually have a single opening...

how long does it take for the ticket to come through the post if it is a speeding fine, and is there a time period after which If i have not got a ticket I wont get one?
hopefully they were checking tax and insurance as corradoboy sugested, as the vehichle was the same as the one in the first photo

They have 14 days to issue you with a NIP (Notice of Intention to Prosecute) unless the car is rented or a company vehicle, whereby they have longer to ascertain the identity of the driver.
14 days plus a reasonable ammount of time to allow for postal delays..... if it gets close to three weeks and you have not been notified of intended prosecution then your safe

but most areas have the old cameras which only work in daylight. Cumbria have been trialling cameras which work at night, although I don't know if any other areas yet have them or whether they are going nationwide.
