Question WRX Intercooler to STI - is it worth it?

Planning on changing OE intercooler on WRX PPP (05 with viper induction kit) to an STI cooler. Am I to expect reasonable torque gains? My plan is to head for the magical 300 mark All advice welcome....

I'm guessing torque ? You'll struggle to get 300 bhp tbh on a TD04

300Bhp - I know that's quite easily achieved without any drastic changes. Just wondering if the intercooler would make a noticeable difference. The Pipercorss viper gets the thumbs up BTW.

In what way does the Pipercross help? I had a similar induction kit on my car and all it did was increase the inlet temp and restrict power. It was removed when the old girl was re-mapped and replaced with a green panel filter.

Wouldn't have thought you'd see much gain just changing the TMIC, though the STI one, I have been expertly advised (as I know little about these things so asked someone who does ) that the STI TMIC can handle the cooling requirements of an engine modified and mapped up to around the 330 to 350 bhp mark.

I fitted STI intercooler to my old WRX and it did go better. Seemed to boost slightly higher and hold it better.

IIRC the STi intercooler produces less pressure drop, which means more of the boost produced by the turbo gets to the engine. Therefore, it will make some difference.

As for 300bhp being quite easily achieved with the standard turbo and no drastic changes, I hope you're going to a very optimistic rolling road, or you'll be sorely disappointed. There are only a handful of TD04 (ignoring the TD04 hybrid) equipped cars that have made it to 300, and only then at places like power engineering that tend to read fairly high. I've never heard of one making 300bhp at powerstation, for example. Get the AndyF hybrid TD04, that'll be a different story!
