Default How low do you go ???

I know i'll get people criticising but thats not the intention here, so...

I'm fitting 19"s on my Scooby and wondered if there are any images of any others out there ?

And how low do people go with their suspension ??

I fancy lower than a snakes belly, Tarmac WRC styleee

Cheers
Minty.

25mm?! Thats how much i've lowered mine...

You only seem interested in the looks side of things, so some chopped springs should do it!! LOL!

Well i havent driven one on 19"s before so it may be a dog, but cosmetically i'm prepared to give it a go.

Technically i'm not too sure how it will affect it, i guess acceleration will be reduced, body roll may be improved with the low profiles.

How else ????

Just make sure you finish the look properly with a nice set of lexus lights and blacked out windows.

I knew i'd get slated.

Whats wrong with 19"s if they sit correcly and fill the arches.

What are you guys sitting on and why ??

ANC Steve on www.scoobywales.co.uk as 19's on his STi 9. It tramlines like a barsteward

Don't forget if you increase the wheel diameter you must reduce the tyre wall depth. Otherwise speedo readings will be off

The car veers off in both directions when there's a change in surface, dents in the tarmac, or un-even joins.

But TBH, they do that as standard anyway. It's both hands on the wheel most times. Can catch you unaware too...

It will reduce acceleration, doubt it will do any favours for the handling, and generally ruin the things an impreza was made for!

Up to you of course, but IMO things like this are best left for Saxo's and corsa's!

I can appreciate all of the rude boy comments and the potential handling damage...."18's to Go and 19's for Show" but how does it affect the handling specifically ??

Maybe i'm after a scientific response from a geometry expert but i'd like to know what to expect.

What do the WRC teams run on their Tarmac monsters as the rims look rather large in the huuuggee arches that they have.

Also the AP disks & calipers i'm looking to get need 19's to fit.

Minty.

If you put them on your car...YOU will have to change the suspension aswell for a firm adjustable suspension set up that doesnt have much travel...hmmmmmmm very expensive.

Will also put a lot of extra load on suspension components and cv joints/driveshaft etc.

Had a set of 19" Superleggras on my 04 WRX, and hated the way it drove, also the wheels kept catching the rear arch when giving it some hard into some corners. I sold them after a month of having them, I have 18s on now with a 30mm drop at the front and cant remember the back but I think its 25mm, but its lowered on Coilovers, and I love the way the car looks and handles now, and theres only a little gap between the arch and the wheels.

Heres a picture of the 19s with standard WRX suspension.

My suspension on the 94 wrx is standard with 17 inch wheels and i think its fine....sick of rock hard suspension, speed bumps and the general ruff ride.

I dont even think its 18s for go!! 17's all the way!! My friends impreza is on 18's and both he and I agree the ride and feel is much better on mine.

19's will tramline, rub quite badly in the arches i would imagine (i know 18's can catch) I wouldnt want to have excessive tramlining, rubbing arches and reduced acceleration on my impreza!

Maybe handlings the wrong word, but an awful ride, and sacrificed performance is what you will end up with!

Think the WRC cars use 18's on their tarmace stages, but they have everything so precisely set up, i should imagine everything about the car has been altered/set up to deal with them!

I think 18s are perfect for the newage, Ive had 17", 18" and 19" on my newage and I think the 18s are the best for all round performance and driveability, on the Classic Ive only had 17s on it, and was more then happy with the ride of it.

Dont forget the arches on a newage car need bigger wheels, the standard 17s are just not big enough for those arches.

What size of tyres u got on there mate? i was shocked when one of my tyres had a puncture i found out that it was because both my rears were rubbing on the dampers!!! that was 17/225/45, i had to change to 17/205/40. Thats on standard suspension, although previous owner said he had the camber adjusted to prodrive recomendations.

Dont go for 19s mate unless youre really not interested in anything the impreza was made for. I wanted 19s and have spoken to many top gurus in the scooby world and theyve set me straight.

You can get 355mm discs under 18s no problem, i highly doubt you have the tuning in mind that could need anything greater than that!!

Full WRC spec cars pretty much only share the scooby bodyshell, everything else is bespoke pure racecar. Thats why theyre able to run those big wheels and even theyre only 18s.

Stick to 18s and thank everyone for saving you alot of money and disappointment!!
