Performance query on classic????
This is something that has come to light only recently i have a MY99 classic which is pretty much standard apart from a panel filter and back box - a buddy has a MY98 Wagon which has the same spec as mine yet there seems a performance difference, In third his boost really kicks in at 40mph and i swear goes all the way to nearly 95-100mph before tailing off, where as mine really seems to run out of puff at 85mph before i have to change up into fourth.
He seems to think his is maybe a Jap import - i heard somewhere that these run a bigger turbo, but i'm not sure but all i know his third gear compared to mine is phenominal
Can anyone shed any light on this - cheers

From what i understand he probably has the 801 ecu and you have the 802 ecu (they are interchangable) Downside is your 802 is more restrictive becuase it is set up to run better emmisions. Just a thought.

The gearboxes are different on the UK and JDM models.
The UK version has longer gearing and will continue to
achieve higher top speeds in every gear.
The JDB (WRX/STI) variants have shorter gearing which
give quicker 0-60 times but a lower top end.
This may have something to do with what your explaining.

maby u need a new hamster under ur bonnet??
It could just be down to how the two engines are holding up, what oil they running, last service, diff/gearbox oil/condition, wheel size, pressure etc
Although his seems to pull harder to 100 have u tried a 0-100 race with him? c what the results are. Will also let u c where his gear changes are compaired to urs and where the power bands are on the two cars. - its also fun (dont let the p.c. crew know though!)

A wierd question but maybe related to it being a uk model or jdm, Chief has a saloon with no A/C and no sun roof. Usually cars have no sunroof if the car has got A/C. Maybe this gives a clue to it being uk or not ???
Mines got a sunroof and no A/C and a year older than this, MY98. His has a MY99.
We've also noticed he has no heat shield on his turbo. Which I thought he might have had the downpipe replaced or something.
Carl, we will have to wait till the RR day in feb. And see what happens.

Is this side by side, or is it both of you in the same car?
As said if his is a jap import the gearing will be different, the speedos could be out etc.
Also his will only have 1 cat in the downpipe, yours has another one in the centre section. A JDM WRX has a less restrctive silencer in the centre section.
