Default Oil change - When to do it

When i bought my car it was just under 3 years old so had limited Subaru warranty left. The Garage chucked in a 2 year warranty of their own (Franchised scooby dealer) not an extended Subaru warranty.

However, 'their' warranty requires a service every six months or 6k miles.
I note from previous threads and i from my service book Subaru recommend 10k service intervals.
I know what you are all thinking......They are clawing back the cost of the warranty + more through regular servicing....I am however, happy to go along with it for the time being.

My question is why do some companys say 10k or once a year and others say 1 service every two years. Do they use different oil or are the rest of us being fleeced ?
I am a firmly believe that oil should be changed once a year no matter what you drive, any thoughts ?

Out of interest my oil is being changed every 3k on my MY02
as i dont do that many miles in it.
Once the warranty has expired i guess i will opt for the 10k and save a few bob

Surely they cant make you service it every 6K if the manufacturer says 10K. I would check that out properly, perhaps with another scooby dealer.

I am assuming that because they are providing the warranty i must go by their terms and conditions.
I agree an oil change every 3k is a bit o.t.t.

I wouldnt have that matey. If its service interval is 10K then 10K it is.

If they said every 3K would you accept it?

The warranty is a third party warranty.They cover other marques than Subaru and can get you to service the car as often as they like.

Agreed which is why i put up with it.

What about oil lasting one year in some cars and two in others.
Can a car really run on the same oil for two years without causing premature wear ?
