Default Fitting a bonnet without a catch?

Hello. Can anyone give me any advice on how it would be possible to fit a carbon fibre bonnet (Impreza 99) that hasnt got a catch on it?? Would it be possible to use the catch of my old bonnet or would pins be the only option? If this is the case how difficult and expensive would this be? Any advice or info would be very gratefully recieved!!! Cheers!!!

Not from my personal experience but from what others have said to me carbon bonnets tend to lift at higher speeds, although some may hold on the normal catch I personally for my own peace of mind would fit bonnet pins despite their ugliness maybe try and find a black set to hind them on the CF background

I'm sure someone with first hand experience will be along shortly...

Bonnet pins are what you see on all Rally cars and are basically a pin and catch on the outside of the bonnet.

If this is a road car, I would recommend for security that you also fit the standard catch or anybody will just be able to lift your bonnet...

Do you have to drill thru the bonnet then to fit these and do they need a fixing point or something in the engine? And would the standard catch just bolt on to the new bonnet? Sorry for all these questions but dont wanna spend £700 on a CF bonnet to not be able to fit it

Yes you do need holes though the bonnet for the pins, however I would have thought that a CF bonnet would have these in already (maybe not!!)?

You will also need a hole each side through your slam panel (either side of where the original bonett catch is) and the pins are threaded at the bottom and are held in by bolts.

with carbon bonnets you usuall take the catch off the old metal bonnet !

I would highly recommend bonnet pins too !

Carbon fibre shouldn't be drilled with normal drills, I'm sure people do it but it makes a mess and can weaken the fibres. So I'm sure they should come with the holes already there.
