Q: SPEC C Residuals vs Type UK (ppp)?
My first post on SN for many moons!
I'm thinking about moving on from my MY99 finally. I'm still early on in the decison making process but it appears to me that from a purely financial point of view the SPEC C may be a much better buy then Type UK (PPP) as residuals appear significantly stronger? (Just comparing an 04 SPEC C on Ian Litchfields site for 23k vs typical 04 UK sti(ppp) prices at at a garage -19k max? ). I'd buy from a dealership and it would either be a late pre-latest facelift model or a new 06 model. I'd probably hold onto for 4years or so. I think running costs (service, ins, mpg)would be very similar so I can probably forget about that.
Does anyone have a view on the likely residuals for the two types of STI? (I guess imported cars have become more 'accepted' in recent years, helping out the SPEC C?)
Cheers

Personally I think you should buy the car you want rather than what you think is going to be worth the most in 4 years. Thats a long time to keep a car if you cant get used to how raw it is.
It would be a spec C for me but then I like the raw nature of it myself.

Remember, the Spec C is only going to appeal to a small market. This may harm long term prices. Saying that, Type R's are a good place to put your cash in Impreza land.

The Spec C will have higher residuals, due to the fact it is a limited car imported tbh. As the Spec C is slightly more specialised, the price and rarity has dictated better residuals than the normal JDM STi..... whether this will continue is unknown, but based on the numbers on the road I see no reason why not.
Obviously the number of imported JDM's is a speck compared to UK cars (with Spec C's being a small proportion of the JDM's), so I doubt that will change.
Realistically, my MY03 Spec C (if returned back to standard) would be worth circa £20k based on mileage and condition. Meaning it has lost about £7k in just under 3 years.
Regards,
Shaun.

thanks for the prompt replies guys.
Gary, I'm sure I would actually prefer the rawness but a test drive at ian litchfields would be first up. It would only be a weekend car anyway which helps out.
Shaun - that's awesome 3 year residual (75%) - are you sure, is that market tested?

I agree the EVOX looks good in the piccies but I think the servicing intervals for all evo's are ridiculous (6m or 4.5k?) and I wouldn't buy one unless this changes.
....and the slight problem being the EVOX isn't out until mid-2007 in the UK according to Evo magazine?

Just out of intersest I have moved very recently from a MY99 to a Spec C and I don't think the Spec C is that raw at all - very enjoyable car which can be used day to day as the new ones have air con, electric windows, all sorts of soft stuff
