Question Potential Scooby owner seeks advice...

Hi, having just sold my Alfa 145 Cloverleaf I'm now in the market for an Impreza. I'll be 24 in a couple of weeks so insurance is still a problem, although I'm not quite sure what I'd be looking at with a clean licence and 2yrs NCB. With regard to this is there much difference in insurance between a classic turbo and a turbo wagon? Also are imports usually more expensive to insure?

Lastly, could anyone recommend some decent Subaru dealers in the South please, just so I know where to go if I do decide the insurance isn't going to cripple me

Cheers.

Will

Most insurance companies won't touch an import of you are under 25.

I'd suggest you get some online quotes on a UK car and an import. Set your budget and then try and get the newest car you can for the money.

Then start saving for the modifications!! If you're going for a UK classic then try and get the 99/00 one that come with the 4 pot calipers.

Good luck with the search!

You must live in a great postcode mate. Elephant wanted about 2k off me when I was 28 with 0NCB and wanted insurance.

You are insured for a turbo aren't you, not a sport. Mistakes like this are all too common.

I've heard of people living in very low risk postcodes (in the wilderness in scotch land etc) getting surprisingly good qotes, but this low at 22 with 0NCB for a valuable group 19 car?!?!

Based on the info provided and my experience with Elephant, I'd suggest they've quoted you for a non-turbo Sport model. If not, I'm moving to where -ever you are NOW.

Try http://www.performancedirect.co.uk/

This lot deal specifically with performance cars and imports and should do you the best deal possible. Mine was 25% cheaper with them than anyone else could manage!!

There's a nice Silver Turbo 2000 (99 Model Year) for £10k sat outside Adams in Aylesbury. But you're best buying privately in my opinion.

Being in 'Scotch Land' as some roast beef put it, im £500 with full NCB on an 03 WRX UK car but ive 9 points on my licence. You have to shop round as some insurance companies will try and increase your premium for having points when in fact it should only go up if you have a ban. Elephant tried to double my premium so i changed and am now with Direct line.

Thanks for all the replies, looks like I might just be able to afford the insurance but it will be tight. I'll have a ring around and see what can be done. So is there any difference between the wagon and the saloon in terms of insurance?

Still looking for a decent dealer in the south (pref. in Hampshire area).

Depending on your circumstances the running costs may cripple you - Seriously if it is going to be tight - Dont forget to factor in service costs which are every 6 months for a pre 00 scoob, tyres, brakes and most of all fuel. They are quite thirsty.
