WRX vs VXR
Hi all, I've justed been on an old forum I used to go on regularly, and a guy on there has sold his 53 plate WRX for a brand new Astra VXR.
The only thing is he's stating it's quicker then his WRX and it's not even run in properly yet.
Well i'm interested cos I cancelled my VXR order for a 05 WRX and i'm very happy, but was wondering if anyone has been up against one of these yet as the new owners are taking delivery?

260bhp with a PPP fitted. I was thinking about the Astra VXR, over an Impreza, but thought a 4wd car would be better in the long run. As it has been said already 240bhp going through the front wheels .
Plus I have a mk3 GSI, so a chance from Vauxhall's would be great,
Just want the flat 4 burble .

Er no the WRX STi has 262 as std. The WRX is 220 or some such piffling amount
So back to the original question, same weight but the VXR has more power. WRX quicker off the line due to AWD then the VXR should kick its ****
Plus I like the look of the new VXR...........

scooby owners just cant accept that other cars may be quicker than theirs, unless its an evo but i must admit im not happy with the idea that a vauxhall astra may be quicker than my scoob

Well you may prove me wrong about that as the older MY03/04/05 cars were only 262BHP or 305 when fitted with PPP. Not sure about the new MY06 bhp as std though.......
Wet twisties will be mentioned soon me thinks......

Isn't the VXR about 15.5 to 100 mph according to one of the recent tests ? And a MY05 WRX about .... 15.5 ? And to 60 a WRX 5.8, VXR 6.2.
In a straight line it's more likely to be neck and neck. In gear may be different but if you get a 'good' VXR and a 'Friday afternoon' WRX ?
I drive BMW's at work ....all exactly the same model - with a choice of about 15 to pick from ..... and they do vary considerably in performance terms. I think the same applies to all cars if you get a good one ...... and thats all without mentioning the driver element!

sold my 02 astra sri turbo(197bhp) for a 05 WRX,astra was quick.slightly better fuel economy, thru the twisties, wet etc(all the usual)wouldn't know which way the wrx went(and lets face it,we spend a good 70% of the year in the wet in this poor excuse of a country!).
I seriously thought about ordering a VXR,great looking car, especially in black!(can get partners discount, which they wouldn't allow on the VXR),waited until the car mags reviewed it,glad I didn't buy it in the end.Had 2 years of torque steer and got fed up of it.
VXR will probably paste the WRX in gear, but thats not everything is it!

Couldn't see the VXR on TG's lap board, but the STi did a 1:30.1 with the WR1 (ie. PPP) clocked a 1:29.4. The Focus ST, which seems a suitable comparison to the VXR comes in at 1:32.2. If you consider that the extra 40bhp of a WR1 over a std STi gives it 0.7, then a std WRX with IRO 225bhp should maybe achieve 1:30.9 although the better suspension, gearing, brakes and steering will probably add another few 10th's. I'd say that on TG's track a WRX and a VXR would be fairly level. In the real world however, I'd say the 4WD, grip and taught chassis in a WRX would eat the 2WD VXR on most good drivers roads. Add a PPP and some choice suspension mods and the VXR would be left for dead. IMHO.

In real world terms theres not much in it once rolling. I've chased an 03 STI before in my mildly tweaked UK classic and it didn't get away. I've also had a Leon R stuck to my rear bumper and it would not go away so read into BHP figures what you want.
Personally I hate Vauxhall even though I like the VXR. Would never buy one again.
On the road its not the car that wins its usually who bottles first - not the safest way to drive I must admit.
