Alternatively, just hold down the accelerator FULLY while cranking, the engine won't start as the ECU doesn't allow the injectors to operate. Doing so means the ECU won't log a crank sensor fault in it's memory. (no big deal).

There's growing support for the theory that the engine is under less load if simply allowed to start-up and run on idle instead of cranking over on the starter motor. Personal choice.

 Best to unplug the crank sensor and let the oil pressure build up while the engine is turning over on the starter motor at no where near idle rpm Once the oil pressure light has gone out your free to go....

I have had two WRX's now, ownership in excess of over 4 years , I change my oil every month as I believe this is the best option for protection, albeit expensive..

I have never ever unpluged the sensor to stop the engine starting, I have read peoples theories to this and think its another one of those, oh I have a subaru and its such a performance car that I need to do a specialist oil change not!!

Each to there own I guess

Once a month is a bit excessive , wont the oil still be in brand new condition virtually !

I do a fair bit of mileage in mine comute, plus runs out with the WYIOC, a lot of the mileage I do is shall we say enthusiastic driving

I use Comma semi synthetic and genuine Jap oil filter, cost in the region of £12 per change.

when I say every month it can be into 5-6 weeks so my fisrt statment was not entirely truthfull.

But for me its money well spent, my car is still running sweet as the day I imported it (touching wood)

Its a simple of case of each to there own, personal choice
