Lightbulb Prodrive sports cat downpipe and WRX PPP

Guys,

I've got a 2002 WRX PPP with the piggyback chip version. This means it's running @1.2bar boost and has the centre decat and Prodrive Back Box. I've been thinking about the next step and have bought a prodrive sports cat downpipe, £200 brand new off ebay.

Should I:

A). Just fit the sports cat downpipe and if I do so will the ppp map cope
B). Fit the sports cat downpipe and a Hayward and Scott decat uppipe and if I do this will the ppp map cope
C). Do B and have a remap
D). Forget it sell the sports cat and have a beer down the pub on the proceeds

Any help appreciated.

Hi mate, I had same set up as you and was going to fit the Prodrive D/P, spoke to Mike Woods at Prodrive who said that it may cause issues with the map so risky without a re-map, I've now junked the piggyback for an Ecutek re-map as with the piggyback I was seeing a heady 220 HP!!!!!!! with the Ecutek I have 265 HP and much smoother to drive, I've also fitted a de-cat up-pipe since...

Oh yeh the answer is C for sure IMO

From my limited knowledge I believe it is advisable to change the uppipe and the downpipe at the same time on a newage, not just one or the other.

I would think it is almost certain that you will also need a remap but I'm not sure you can do much with the PPP map, (hopefully someone else can confirm this)?

Oh, and personally I'd go to the pub while I decide.

Yep,

Thought that might be the answer, just painfully more expensive. Just feeling poor as it is Christmas.

Bryno what is it like adding the sports cat? Did you notice a large difference?

I didn't fit the D/P in the end, at the time I also didn't fancy the cost of the re-map so held off the D/P, then ended up re-mapping a couple of months later anyway as I wasn't happy with the PPP..

So I had the Prodrive backbox and centre on for the re-map, which gave a good result, then got the up-pipe done later as a safety measure, but it does allow the boost to spool quicker for sure...

I could have done the D/P at the same time as it has to come off to do the up-pipe anyway, but TBH I'm pretty happy with the way it goes as is.. it's circa. 255/265HP with 265/275 ft/lb's torque and I wasn't to fussed about the extra 10 or so HP I'd gain for the cost of the downpipe, but clearly if you want to do the down and up-pipe, best do these before shelling out for the re-map..
