Default Rolling Road today, BHP guess??

Hi, I'm off to Power Engineering today for a power run/remap if necassary. What BHP/torque would you expect from the following mods? Car is a non PPP/WR RB5 (basically a MY99 classic).

Andy F TD04 turbo
TSL de-cat down pipe and centre section
Prodrive Back box
TEK2
Green panel filter

Cheers
Jon

Depends what boost your running too, also bear in mind PE's figures tend to be higher than other rolling roads.

So what boost can it be re-mapped to without running in to problems?

I'm aware of PE's optimistic figures, sounds good down the pub though

If the TD04 is one of Andy's hybrids then the TEK2 you have won't be mapped to it. So it could be worth remapping, if it isn't a OE TD04.

Ideally get the headers/uppipe ported and uprate the turbo to IC pipework to get the best from that package

It is indeed one of Andy's hybrids, so I think I will go for the remap. I may also get some uprated pipework as you say

The hybrid TD04 that Andy Forrest offers is able to pump enough air to make 280bhp I believe; so Im guessing ot wont be mre than that.....

Andy has tested the turbo at 320/320(ish)

You'll have to ask him what supporting mods you'll need though if you want to get close to that figure.

Yup, a standard TD04 is good enough for that

Well that was the best £50.00 I've ever spent! Some of the pipes to my boost control solenoid were connected up to the wrong place, which must have been done done by Subaru as the engine was replaced 2k ago...

So this meant I was running 0.7 bar boost!! After the pipes were all going to the right place it was running 1.2 bar and what a difference - 291 BHP @ 6325 RPM & 268 LBS/FT!!

The difference on the road is incredible! Even accounting for the optimistic reading I'm really chuffed. For info, Andy's hybrid TD04 is good for 320/320 with (if I'm not mistaken) full de-cat, STi7/8 IC & induction, so given that I don't have the bigger IC and only have a panel filter, the figures do add up.

It was fuelling fine with the TEK2, so no need to re-map.

It's a nice curve too, not sure how to post it up on here though, anyone help?

Cheers

Youre both right of course; my apologies. It just goes to show that you cant concentrate on two things at once doesnt it?

Indeed, as my (newage) standard TD04'd WRX has been to PE twice and both times got into the 280s. (Best being 284bhp/272lbft)

Jon - I believe you'd find that, whilst your figures are good, you'd get more benefit from the turbo by getting a TEK3 to better use its extra potential, i.e. possibly scrape past the 300bhp figure at PE. Not meaning by saying that to take anything away from what I imagine drives very nicely and are good figures.

Hi Frank,

Nice surprise to hear from you!! Have you been on the rollers since getting your bigger turbo?

I agree with your point of view on the TEK3 front. I think I'll go for that if I do any other mods like a nice big intercooler

Hi John,
Yes its been back on and got 365bhp with 368 torque but since then I have fitted a new management system and bigger injectors, so in the next few weeks I should be looking at
about 390/400bhp at 1.5bar we shall see...

Nice one Jon

If/when you decide to go for a Tek3 get your tuner to give me a bell and I'll give him the ideal boost settings per RPM for that turbo.

cheers

I didn't get my car on the rollers before putting this turbo on, so I don't know the exact gain, but I'd say without it, and with exactly the same spec as you, I had less than 270 BHP!! So you should be flying with it!!

I'd definately recommend it if you weren't looking for more than 320 BHP after all mods. With this turbo you keep the quick spool up and lower RPM response of a small turbo - it just blows harder than the standard TD04

Default Overboost

Hi everyone,

I'm getting some overboost now. I've cleaned my boost solenoid which didn't help and I've done some research, but I'm still a little confused.... Should I get a 3 port boost solenoid? Will that fix it? Or should I get a boost controller or a full TEK3 re-map with the 3 port boost solenoid?

Is there a quick fix and what's the best way to fix it?

Cheers

Ideally it needs mapped to that turbo. As a short term fix you could reduce the tension on the wastegate actuator (lengthen adjustable link) Just make sure the wastegate is still closed at rest.
