Default PPP or not PPP

I currently have a standard 05 sti and i am thinking of having the ppp put on.
Has anyone driven one before and after, and do you think i is worth it.
The reason i am asking this question is because i cant get a test drive of one, none of the dealers anywere near me have one in.
Any help would be really good

If you do a search on here you will find about 100 million reasons to do it and not many reasons why not too

One not to.
Ecutek re-map is cheaper. £499+VAT in Powerstation at the mo. It's mapped to you and unlike the PPP, one size does not fit all.

Ecutek is mapped to the car and you. How many PPP owners sit behind the mapper when they get a PPP done?

PPP For my motor £1600 gain 40 BHP.
Re-map. £34 Panel, £100 Fuel pump, all cats in place plus the mapping charge! Bargain. Gain 46 BHP!

But wait what about a warranty. Oooh Ahhh New car Hmmmm. The choice is yours!!

its a shame your dealer never told you that on the last 05 s that you could have ppp free ... i only have a wrx ppp and it has about the same bhp with a little more torque than a standard sti... well worth it...

Karl, I have driven an 05 STi, and a couple of 03 STi`s with PPP (one of which I bought), and I can tell you that it is a major step-up in performance, as it brings in the meat of the power earlier, and makes it last longer, so you get peak-torque of the initial STi, but for longer, then more on top besides. It also feels like that when you drive it, as well.

As to whether it`s worth it, or not, is more difficult to answer for me, as I`ve never driven another that`s been independently modded without PPP, so I can`t comment on that.

Assuming you`d like to retain your warranty, then it has to be PPP, but, at 2k to add it on, it`s a lot of money.

So, in a nutshell, yes, there is a big difference performance-wise, but only you can decide it it`s worth 2k to you.

sti engine is strong enough to reliably take 400bhp. On standard internals with a decat, remap and fuel pump, 340 bhp will cause you no engine problems. It would be a very fussy dealer I think who would fuss if you had suspension, brake or air con problems under warranty.

Best thing is to go for the Triple 3 (333bhp!!) conversion by TSL. Evo magazine and quite a few others on here have said its much better overall than the PPP and costs about the same price.

The PPP for the 05MY STi (and later versions of 03/04MY) are quite a bit different to the spec tested for the EVO article so I would take comments about comparisons with a pinch of salt as the package is different now.

Have a word with your dealer, he may be able to sort something out for you

When I enquired it was still the 40 BHP only. That was in August.

With mine, there doesn't seem to be any difference in boost pressure between the before and after conditions (around 20/21psig) but obviously things have been altered due to the performance gains.

As with any turbocharged car, catch it off boost in the wrong gear and it'll bog down but get it on boost with suitable revs and you don't want to be watching dials going round as you're hanging on...

The improvements made are mainly down to driveability, not changes to the peak figures. For example, it's quite easy to get a bigger peak torque number, but if that's only because of a temporary uncontrolled overshoot in boost around peak torque, the car isn't any quicker when you put it against the clock to 60mph.

Over time we've been uncovering more functionality in the ECU to enable us to make it do things the way we want it to and we update the packages with this new learning.

It doesn't work that way! The 05MY ECU is different to 03/04MY and isn't interchangeable.

Mike, whilst you ar on here, could you clear something up for me please.

I had my 52 plate Bugeye WRX PPP'd about 3 months ago, what sort of BHP and Torque improvements you I be getting?

Is your 02 or 03MY as there are slight differences between the two?

No news on figures for the 06MY 2.5 PPP's yet but don't expect 23% more of everything as the engine's 23% bigger
