Dog-owning wagon drivers....
After three and a half years Scoobyless (sold my P1 in Feb 2002) we now have a '98 5-door. We also have a Labrador with a habit of scratching the bumbers of estates while getting in and out.
I've noticed some estates (Audis for example) come with what looks like a self adhesive panel (sometimes black, sometimes body colour) applied to the top face of the rear bumber to protect it. Wondered if there's anything similar after-market for the wagon?

My solution ..... for what its worth, costs Ł2.
I have 2 'rear' rubber carmats from the Ł shop ....... pop them under the trim either side of the latch bar at the front of the boot ..... flip them out over the bumper for dog to get in and out - flip them back in-over then shut the tailgate.
At Ł2 I can have the luxury of replacing them in the spring!!
Stops the tailgate rattle too!!
Everyones a winner!!

I've got one for my classic 5 dr (now got a 4dr)
Looking at getting a newer Scoob sometime in the next few months - the new shape have a lovely brushed stainless steel bumper protector - looks really nice.
I could be tempted to part with mine for the right price Don't need it and the new brumbrum will use a different type.......
PM if interested, and I can supply photos

I have had 5 door models throughout my scooby ownership (6 in total), I have got 3 Labs, and all of my cars have been fitted with an OEM part available from your local Scooby dealer. On the early Impreza I only had a choice of Black, but regular use of 'Back to Black' kept it looking tidy. On the other cars I have had it was either black or brushed stainless steel to choose from. I chose the brushed stainless one and after a few months of dogs clawing it it looked crap, so changed it for a black version and have stuck with black ever since.
When you fit one, make sure the bumper is clean, and make sure you align it correctly before pressing it into place, they are a bugger to shift if you get it wrong.

Thanks for all the tips. Must admit that I never bothered much with our last car (an aging Mondeo estate) but I feel the 5-door deserves better somehow.
Thanks again all.

A company called HATCHBAG do bootliners that cover the floor, sides, rear back of set and also a flap that folds out to protect the bumper - had one in my last estate car a - mondeo, great product especially if you also get the dog crapped up or soaking wet which I imagine your Labrador is great at doing all by it's self!!
Cuts down on vacuming dog hairs woven into the rear carpet as well - best Ł90 I ever spent!! Own 2 boxers one of which is white and the bloody hairs off her seem to weave themselves into the side trim panels and boot carpet a treat and resist the best efforts of any vacum - once liner was fitted life was much easier, quick vac wipe over with some soapy water and it was like new!!

At least your dogs wait till you have opened the tailgate before trying to get in! my lab recently decided to take his usual flying leap into the back of the car except i hadnt opened it hence he did a flying bounce/leap off the back window and waist spoiler! just some more scratches to add to the other million
