Default MY03 WRX fuel tank questions...

As title says, couple of questions.....

1 - Is the tank 60 litres or 50??

2 - How many litres are kept in the reserve tank (when light comes on)?

Many thanks

Good question, Im always a bit "sh!tting myself" when the light comes on. Anyone have any ideas how many miles you would expect out of the reserve tank?

I also have a MY03 WRX

It's a 60 litre tank. When the light comes on it's got about 8 litres left in the tank. I recommend you don't run for too long with the light on to reduce the possibility of crap in the bottom of the tank clogging filters. Also when making fast 'progress' round long corners e.g. roundabout fuel pressure may not be maintained - this is a problem if you have a modded Impreza.

To answer your specific question though - don't do any more than 30 miles when motorway crusing or perhaps 15-20 miles around town once the light comes on.

The rule of thumb I use is when the light comes on, reset one of the trips and fill up within 20 miles. I've not run out of petrol yet.

Everytime I fill up I put in 40 litres. This way I know how many miles I can expect to get.

40 litres buys me on average 210 miles - 24 mpg(standard 01 wrx).

although the manual says 9 ltrs for 'reserve', mine is more like 12, not that I'd suggest running it that low

Tank it full and never go below quarter mark - good advice if you are fanatical about particular brands of fuel - I'm thinking of when you might be in an unfamiliar area where you run low and resort to buying fuel you don't know or trust.

If thats the case mate, you're getting about 19 mpg.

Have you a heavily modified car or a heavy right boot?!?

If you haven't experienced fuel starvation with less the 1/4 tank, you're not driving it right!
