Question MGD Durham ?

Anyone delt with GMD just off the A1 at Durham ?

I'm pondering a car from them (actually still convincing the wife!).

They seem like friendly enough people - anyone had any experiences with them ?

NOOOOOOOOOO Avoid like the plague.

Sales side is OK. Its the aftersales service that is total sh*te.
First, I had to wait till the 1000 mile service for the PPP to be put on, so I lost the car for 3 days. In that time I asked them to remove wax off the alloys and look at/replace windscreen wipers that were crap.
Collected the car 3 days later with wax on alloys, old wipers still on/never been looked at. The car was covered in dust/sand and best of all, the drivers side BRAND NEW Sti branded mats were covered in Oil and dirt. A paper mat cover was placed on top so's that I wouldn't notice ???????????????

On complaint the manager removed the wax himself and the mat was cleaned, only after a shrug of the shoulders.

Oh yes, they also give you loan cars with not even enough petrol in it for you to get to the nearest petrol station !!!!!!!!

Try S.G Petch of Richmond. I should have bought mine there, but they're are getting all my servicing. Have it booked in with them this Thursday for Oil & Filter change. I also used them for my spring kit & PFF7 alloys. No way will I use GMD again.

Question

I would only used them for the 1000 mile service (+PPP fitting) as I live in the south.

If thats the case would you use them ?

Heard bad things about them too, use somewhere else. There are plenty of places in the North East.

List your location and people will tell you where to go to get stuff done.

If they are cheap enough then perhaps you could consider buying from them. In my opinion, they are terrible at customer service.

If you can cope with that fact then perhaps its worth using them. I know I would not trust a garage like that with my deposit. Are they really that cheap?

Angry GMD Carville,Co Durham just off the A1.

I have recently returned an 03 prodrive to GMD after finding out it was not the car it was described to be when i purchased the vehicle from them. The manager had described the car as a 265 BHP Prodrive model, i bought the car being assured at the time "the vehicle still has over a years Subaru waranty and we will give you a waranty also".When trouble developed with the brakes i took the car to S.G.Petch who were more than helpfull but,had to charge me for carried out as the faults were on non Subaru or Prodrive components. When i asked the manager of GMD to refund me for this his reply was "if you had brought the car here we would of repaired it". When i pointed out that he had sold me a car that was, not as described and what else was non standard(not standard, not covered under Subaru waranty) he didnt want to know. I did not get my repair work money returned so I asked him to take the car back as it is not as described(therefore, not fit for purpose of sale) he offered 3k less than i had paid him for the car 6 weeks earlier!.I DEFINITELY WOULD NOT RECOMMEND G.M.D. Try S.G.Petch at Richmond if you are in the north east.

Wow,its times like this Scoobynet has come in useful, instead of the usual arguing.

I've just been looking at a Black 02 WRX in there as an upgrade on my classic but think i'll have a ride down to Petch's 1st.

Cheers.

I wouldn't recommend GMD at all, they are better off sticking with selling Fiats.

I have never bought from them and never would. I work just down the road and often finish at the same time as they do. I go to the Carrville Shell station right next door to the Sales room and most nights i see some Scooby or another racing off the forecourt from cold being ragged to hell by some salesman. Fair enough probably most garages do this but as i see it all the time i wouldn't really want to buy one of those Scooby's off them.

I bought my new 04 WRX from GMD Durham and I was very happy with the service that the sales team provided.

When I was in the process of buying the car I went to S.G. Petch at Richmond where they refused to give me test drive (claimed the demo car was missing?) and the salesmen told me that he was not interested in selling me a car as he had already met his quota for the month.

I think all dealers have good and bad sales staff/mechanics and it’s the luck of the draw which you get.

I cannot comment on GMD's servicing as I have never used them. After buying the car Jennings Subaru near Middlesbrough opened and I have had the car serviced by them.

More of the same really!
I bought a new 03WRX from them and traded up 18 months later to STI.
Salesmen - Fine
After sales - cr*p!
From my experience though, this is no different to the majority of main dealers, regardless of make!

I bought a MY02 WRX from GMD last March.
Sales team are the usual bunch of 'Sales Executives'
Within 2 months the rad started leaking so one phone call, asked to take the car in, new rad fitted no questions asked.
Just had its first mot carried out there, no probs at all.
Agree with the loan cars being sooooooo low on petrol.
In my experiance they have been no better or worse than any others i have dealt with.
So far.........................
