Exhaust question again
Hi Folks
I am aware thath this question has proberly been covered before but i have been reading conflicting reports about it.
My question is: I am going to de-cat my downpipe (it's starting to rust) and replace the standard backbox with a H&S one. If i leave my center standard will i notice any gains, will this configuration pass an MOT and can i safely run this without a re-map. I am trying to avoid a full de-cat and potentially a re-map.
I have a classic MY00 UK.
cheers

You will notice a difference. It's the downpipe cat that is the most restrictive. The change in backbox will liberate a nice burbble noise!
On your age of car, a remap isn't needed and if you get the centre cat nice and hot, it should pass the MOT.

^^^ what he said
Also if you're mildly handy with the spanners, the centre section is a 10 minute job to swap over, so another option is go full decat and stick the centre cat in come MOT time.

But if you don't have any cat, the car can be classed as un-road worthy and invalidate your insurance - unlikely but something you should be aware of.

For insurance purposes am i right in thinking that leaving the standard center cat in will mean i have a valid insurance policy or will i still have to notify them of the changes.
