C4S or WR1.......... ?
Haven't posted a serious thread onthis BBS for over 18 months or more
Well I'm in a lucky position and have the option to get out of my Boxster S into a 2003 911 C4S (6k miles)..... Its a beautiful thing no doubt.
Just wondering about other options and a WR1 + cash saving is one option.
Money isn't the objective of the exercise. Just wondered what the prof's of this BBS would do ?
Thanks in advance,
Gastro

How about staying in the Boxster S?
Surely the WR1 wouldn't compare to either in terms of handling, engine note, looks, throttle response, braking, ride, refinement and residuals?

I don't think there would be much in it performance wise. Isn't that one around 320bhp? The build quality would be much better though.
You could spend some of the cash you save on the WR1 performance upgrade that Prodrive are working on.
If money is no object, buy a Maclaren SLR or a Pagini Zonda!

Anyway - just thought I'd see what the response on here was and if it had changed much over the years.
I pick up the C4S IN 10 days

Thanks Richard. Lets hope that it isn't a repeat of the last Carrera 4 I had (you probably recall the website you set up for me smokey911.com !).... and I too hope that it lives up to the hype

Indeed - the list is endless of other possibilities.......I've debated them for over 6 months on other BBS's....
I've moved on from Subaru - thoroughly enjoyed my P1, but I'm a Porschaphile through and through.
I've been harking on about a C4S for too long and so I thought it was time to live the dream. That is until I feel secure enough to run a TT

I'd go for the C4S as well.
Only issue I would have is that the 996 facelift is starting to take a tumble with residuals do to 997's now being a little easier to get and the last of the air cooled 911's (In good condition) are tending to hold and fetch more than 996's or only a couple of years older.
Having said that the 996 C4S is an excellent car and I must admit i was tempted with one new on a balloon payment and cash deposit from Autobahn. 5K below list
Steve
PS Only my opinion though

So - in balance - you either live with the depreciation and enjoy - or you don't buy into the car in the first place. The C4S is currently the slowest depreciating 996 with prices near parity with TT'S.
The 3 year predicted value of a 2-3 year old TT in another 3 years time is exactly the same as a C4S - but the TT came in at £5k more....and came in at £20k more new

Having recently changed from a heavily modded 02 STi to a 986 Boxster S, I wouldn't even consider a WR1. The Boxster is better in every way except absolute acceleration in a straight line. The Boxster is alot more fun to drive, fast or slow.
C4S may be less fun to drive than Boxster and is less well balanced. Having followed a 996 with a Porsche sports exhaust for 1000 miles around Scotland I can vouch that it makes a great noise. I think the choice betweena Boxster and 996 depends on how much you like open top motoring.
Of course a Cayman S may be the best choice depending on your budget!!!!!
