Default Remap or not?

I have an '05 reg WRX, standard apart from Prodrive back box, 18" Prodrive O.Z.'s, Prodrive springs and fast road suspention settings. I really love the car and would love to get it PPP'd. It's just the expense that puts me off, as well as extra insurance cost and Tracker fitting etc. So I'm thinking of getting a remap for a bit more boost. I live in Lancashire and was wondering if anyone could recommend any tuning companies for the job. I would really appreciate any pros and cons re my idea too. Thanks.

Obvious con would be any other performance enhancing modification will invlidate your warrenty with Subaru / IM. There are more cost effective solution amd more powerful than PPP, have a search on EcuTek but as I said goodbye warrenty

Subaru wouldn't pick up a re-map though. So from this perspective the warranty would be intact.

Yes not dealer detectable apparently - but if you blow an engine the code could well get looked at if Subaru find themselves faced with a warrenty claim of that magnitude.

EcuTek it regardless...

Hi mate,

I've enquire about ECU upgrades at Prosport, they're in Stockport. They quote me £650exVAT for a remap. The dude there told me that they remap the stock ECU. Not sure if the quote was for this or a replacement ECUTEK thingy.

Don't talk to me about insurance man, it really gets my back up - elephant (for example) want me to pay a stonking extra amount for certain mods and if the car was to written off they would only pay back the cost without mods... whats the value in that!

Don't know how they compare to others - maybe worth a tinkle?

Get it Ecutek'd you won't care about anything else..!

With the handling mods you've got it'll be the icing on the cake, maybe a brake upgrade..!

Just think no more looking over your shoulder for than hot hatch that may out run you..!

Prosport are superb; pete and the gang know what they're doing. The re-map of the standard ECU will be an Ecutek.

I would consider de-catting the exhaust and fitting an STI intercooler, before getting a re-map.

Start with the up pipe and down pipe, you can leave the centre cat, if you don't want to mess about at MOT time.

Love to mate, just need to play it cool re warranty and insurance. I'm thinking a remap will give me a bit more boost but not mess with these two monsters!

I havce an 03 sti, with full turbo back decat exhaust, hks evc boost controller and a HKS F con ecu. Car now supplies 298 hp at the wheels at 1.33 bar, and i have a scramble boost control that will deliver 1.5 bar for a time period between 1 and 40 secs depending on where i set it. To tell you bluntly she's a monster, pulls hard every where and hits 60 under 4.5

Wasn't aware that Proport did EcuTek remaps, certainly easier for me to travel to Stockport then to go to Nottingham. Has anyone had a remap done at Prosport ?
Why is there a big differance in price between Ecutek remaps seen £550 - £650 + vat, but then some place seem to charge for rolling road time on top.
