Default What to do next?

I have been forced to get rid of my WRX because of scumbags trying to steal it and have bought a Forester. I have had this for over a year now and to be honest it is a lot more fun than the WRX. The one that I had was a MY02 wrx with full exhaust and Dawes device and it never set my world on fire. Compared to my MY98 turbo with exhaust and remap it felt as if it had no turbo. Now that I have gone the sensible route and bought the Forester I cant believe how similar they are to the classic. I have just had it remapped by the infamous Andy Forrest, in conjunction with a TD04 turbo and a full hayward & scott exhaust the difference is amazing. The car is now soooo much faster than my old wrx and will embarrass a lot of so called fast cars.

My question is what do I do next? Is it brakes, suspension, or what?

Cheers

Alan

Some nice lightweight wheels with low profile tyres will be a good start to tighten up the handling a little. Beyond that you need help from the experts.... http://www.subaruforester.com/

"My question is what do I do next? Is it brakes, suspension, or what?"

both

brakes and suspension would be my advice
2nd hand 4pots and a thicker anti roll bar for the rear( One off a classic ) your oem one is 13mm wrx are 18mm sti are 20. Or you could get a whiteline 22mm adjustable

Tis me PALATINE, my method is ask the same question to as many people and when the same answer comes up lots of times then thats what to do

I have been looking for a set of 4 pots in local breakers yards as when they come up for sale here they are gone in 60 seconds. The whiteline seems to be the way to go but I know where there is a 97 classic for breaking (no 4 pots unfortunately) and I will see if it has it anti roll bar intact.

Cheers

Palatine, nearly wet myself looking at the pics, your car looks awesome. What did you do to get it so low? Does it handle like a impreza now or is it still like the QE2. Thats how I want mine to look eventually.

It's just about underground.

Don't forget to check the alignment after you drop it though

2pots are scary. Droplinks and arb will help iron out some of the understeer. Forester specific springs can be obtained from whiteline or tein.

My car is riding on Tein s/tech's with cusco 22m front and rear ARB's + a 4 point lower brace and whiteline strut braces

She's gone from being a "jelly on a plate" car to a "like on rails" car
as Steve said just dont forget to track it after the drop
as it rips the inside edges off the front tyres in no time

Just got my hands on a set of 22mm STi front and rear arb's picking them up tomorrow. Is there a set of springs that will suit the car without having to get struts as well that will suit my car with self levelling rears.

Cheers

Alan

P.S. sorry for all the Q's just want to make sure I get the right stuff.

Drop links! Cheap and make a noticeable difference.

4 pots will improve what you have (may next proposed mod) with some uprate pads.

Lowering will help no end.

My gripe is how the seats don't hold you in. The seats from any age of Impreza should fit it, although the rear seats may be an issues, but you could always have the rear seats re-trimmed to match.

As I have an auto I can do it, but if you are in a manual, then a quickshift will help the feel of the gear changes. A modification I had done to three previous Imprezas.

Sounds like you are more or less there, until you start looking at turbo changes and FMICs!!

4 pots are definately on the list and lowering also. I have already changed the turbo to a TD04 but that will be as far as it goes. I dont think I would need a fmic with the mods that I have but I will see at the end of next month when it is going on the rolling road.

Yeah I know what you mean, common sense says stop vey soon but the brain is sending different signals. Fortunately I have been there before with my other 2 imprezas (WRX and classic) and know what I have to look forward to. Been on this board for years under a different name (cant remember passwords) I think I was member #3000 or something like that. Great source of info.

Cheers

Alan
