Default Squeaking/pinking type noise

My sti type r has just started making a quiet, high pitched, scraping/squeaking type noise which sounds a bit like pre ignition - but isn't. It seems to happen when changing speed (either faster or slower) but not at constant speed.

If I break it happens but continues when lifting off the breaks. It does not occur at speeds much under 35mph or at all when stationary but does happen when rolling with the engine off (hence not pre ignition!).

Any ideas?

Thanks

Have you checked your pads? Could be the wear indicators letting you know they're low

Thanks for the replies. It was the breaks. Took all the discs and calipers off at the weekend - and no much much front pads left and discs are knackered - local distributor wants £187 for replacement pads and discs Subaru wanted £109 just for pads!
