just ordered my new Scooby from Motorpoint on Friday - I am getting a Obsidian Black one. I know black is a 'soft' paint - I used to have a Seat Leon Cupra in Magic Black that did 'chip' a bit on the bonnet. Does anyone know any good polishes or treatment especially for black? My wife's Mondeo was treated with Supaguard, but that has still chipped a little and I used Zymol on the Leon!

To be honest mate, I don't think it's the black paint being 'soft'. If a stone is going to hit the car the chances are it's going to chip the paint regardless of the colour. Other than the clear vinyl stuff used on m/bike tanks etc or the USA style nose 'bra's' I can't see how you would stop it. Colour magic's pretty good for hiding them though.

 

Mine is black (mica) too, cleaned it this weekend and noticed 3 bloody stone chips on the bonnet . I had a very slight key scratch on the door a couple of months back and some Swissol paint cleaner got rid of it, but there doesn't seem to be much I can do to these chips, it's taken the paint off so you can see the white underneath.

Is there anything I can do?

 

nope, only solution to stop stone chiips is Armourfend and the like mate

 

New paint, the water based stuff is crap full stop regardless of colour. The older the car generally the better the paint for not chipping etc.

I've had nothing but bother with modern blue cars I've owned.

I've found though that if I get a chip on the Scoob which I've had a few, touching them in with a small amount of paint leave to dry then get a tube of t cut, cut the chips then polish with something like Zymol and you should be almost as good as new.

Only way to stop them fully is to Armourfend the front. But it's pretty expensive!

 

but IMHO well worth it had both my cars done and it does work!!!
