So what I want to know is, do bugeyes and onwards have stronger cambelts?

if it.s a 2000my with a y in the chassis no. it's every 60k, 2001 on wards is generally every 50k some of the early ones still got the old service books which you were able to send to i.m and get them to change it for the new type not sure if they still do it though.

^^ LOL, I think subaru are a bit confused on this one, my quote of 60k or 4 years is straight out of the August 2001 bugeye, (not classic) handbook dated August 2001.. I just did mine at the 4 year mark at 28k... you takes your choice!

it's section 11-3 in my book, book dated Aug 01 so I guess may be later version than yours?, has a pic of a bugeye on the front, I know they messed with the service intervals sometime in 2001 when they went to 10k/1yr servicing rather than 7.5k/12months, you'd think that would have lengthen the interval for cambelt, but my service book uses the old 7.5k schedule.. anyway, I did mine at 4 years, others may choose to do it at 3, clearly Subaru have mixed views on it, LOL!

As the whole job only costs around £150.00 (non franchised) I would have it done as a matter of course after two years. Better safe than sorry.
