Theres no need for text speak sir - plenty of space..!!....
If you want an import just be wary - check history, get it mapped for uk fuel or run it on optimax ( without mods). Then its down to preferance and what your willing to afford...(borrowing to fund your running costs is out)
please be aware that 'decorating' with luxus lights, neons, flaming kits and the like is strictly illegal....

Don't **** about the wannabbees ............. buy a PROPER UK car and sleep
The rest are just tacky tacky imports with dubious histories and pasts that refuse to emerge from the shadows ..........
For a safe buy there is only ONE way to go:-
1 Owner, un-modified, UK car, History, old MOTs, wagon with sensible mileage and DO NOT buy off a RoyBacer .... make sure its a mature driver!!
You'll win everytime if you heed my message!!!

for once im gonna agree with pete.
my first car was a uk turbo and it ran like a dream for the year i had it with simple mods like de-cat, filter and dawes devide running a steady 240 bhp or there abouts.
however i go greedy and wanted more so bought an sti 4 type R, within a month it blew up and cost me a fortune to replace the engine parts, along with my scooby faith!! all because of the modds and the wrong map for uk fuel.
now im back with a UK sti 8 after 2 years of rebuilding faith and hopefully im safe with that (touching large amount of wood)

Indeed, the safe route is ALWAYS the one we ALL know!!
It may not be the cheapest or the fastest, but - its easily the best way!!
Demand:-
NO Mods!!
NO Trackday Use!!
NO RoyBacers!!
NO more than 3 owners!!
Owner NOT younger than 45years old!!
Walk away from Imports, Gold Wheels, Mods., Neon washer Lights, BIG Spoilers ect.!

UK or WRX
To be honest it really depends what you want ultimately (ie power or reliability)
I bought a late reg classic Uk impreza. The engine blew a few weeks ago...dont really know why...was running pretty much standard (just decat exhaust, induction)
Everyone knows scooby engines are inherently weak (everyone please dont shoot me - its true) they are no way near as strong as say the supra lump
There are no hard and fast rules in performance cars. if you uprgade power sensibly, get it fine tuned / remapped on rolling road it should be fine. but it can go wrong at any time. and it costs bucks
Trust me on this
