Baffled newbie
Hi all,
I'm having a mid life crisis and treated myself to my first scoobie, but I'm buggered if I can find out what model and it's rated output. Bought a Impreza cd off of ebay that was supposed to be the dogs danglies but it left me even more confused as my VIN doesn't match anything on the cd id plates except for the first 4 letters, hope someone can put this old farts mind at rest, here's the bit of the VIN that perplexes me JF1GF8BROBG******
and a photo of my new pride and joy............

VIN won't tell you much, look at the ID plate and find the model code eg CG8/GDA etc.
Then check against this http://www.sidc.co.uk/faq.htm (only if it's a classic though still waiting to be updated for newage)
To post pictures you need to register with a host such as www.photobucket.com upload your pictures there the copy the [img] tags to post's here

its difficult to tell from the picture, what age is the car and give us a front picture too. The front bumper gives it away more.
BUT.... It looks like it could be an import jap WRX, with all the colour coding...possibly a MY99 if I recognise the wheels (although it looks like a smaller front scoop). So probably 280bhp/250ftlb. Lovely motor if it is.
Probably the best year for a WRX, version5.
although I may well be wildly off the mark as the wheels may be 3rd party.

The model is officially known as the 'Subaru Impreza Turbo - Type Ugly'
Power will be somewhere in the region of 4 bhp - or 5000 bhp or something, doesnt really matter as everyone will just stare in disbelief that anyone CHOSE to buy something so hideous looking ;0)

I'd say it's an early UK car, perhaps a 1994 or 1995 model.
Note the lack of roofbars which some UK wagons didn't have (not sure on the imports) and the presence of the side bump strip.
Wheels look like 15" inch Subaru GX versions.

Thanks for all the info and advice. Regardless of other detrimental 'quotes' I loves my little car, it feels tight and solid on all surfaces (except cobbles and we do have em in Swansea) and goes far far better than your normal sports cars/hatch so I'm gonna keep it.
The model code is GF8BK8D with option EE and it was puchased new in the UK on the 1/8/1994

It's a bit of a dog's dinner with the '99 wheels, colour-coded handles, JDM Sti wagon roof spoiler(could be a repro) small scoop, later style bonnet vents etc, etc.
How have you insured it? Did you get a list of mods, if any?

Uncertain provenance might have been more polite.
Wheels, more like year 2000?

I should have been more polite to a newbie, but there are just so many "dog's dinners" about these days sometimes the irritation leaks out.
Each to their own, eh?

Hi all,
It might be a dogs dinner to some of the more technically perfect out there but to me, it's my first and it's the dogs danglies. Unfortunately it doesn't have perfectly aligned bolts, I havn't given every individual part a pet name and I use it in all weathers to enjoy the ride, listen to the growl and have fun.
.................................................. .................................................. .......
I still have no idea what it's output is rated at, or what model is (or purporting to be)....
Have a nice aesthetically pleasing day....

Just to put the record straight for the more aesthetically perfect out there. the car was stolen three weeks prior to me buying it and all they took were the wheels, the seats, the bonnet and scratched up the paint , so it had the first alloys he could get at a reasonable price, a new alloy bonnet, a front set of comfy LEGACY SEATS (I'm looking for some proper ones at the right price...cheap) and a respray, obviously didn't mask the handles and all it cost me to drive it from the guys house when I bought it was my R reg Mitsubishi Galant auto. So once again, it might be a dogs dinner but to me it's a godsend.

L66bad, welcome to our little playroom. The thick skin is just ideal. Lots of help about though and "current affairs" discussion if that's your thing.
Oh, Bubba and me, Wagonners too.
