I'm based in the North East and have just had to go for petrol.

Massive queues at all the stations that I have visited. Some are already running out of fuel

Can see one petrol station from my window, lovely queue all the way down the road.

Hopefully something will come of these protests soon

What part of the North East are you from? I'm from Darlo & was going to tank up this weekend ready for the 14th. If people are panic buying now, I'll have to either join the long queues, or not go to work next week through lack of petrol.......... No work for me then

I too am in the fuel business (distribution) and would say that the Government was caught out last time, it won't happen next time.

Since the last protest the Government has made contingency plans which includes all companies that own tankers right down to local Distributor level.

It may happen but I would say that it will be different this time around.

Panic buying is senseless, it just creates further price increases! Stay calm

Exactly, everyone queues today the petrol stations run out of fuel, which are then topped up again by the tankers and then the petrol stations are empty becuase nobody needs fuel. Muppets the lot of them.

There may well be protests next week, but no blockades. As the oilman says the government have introduced measures to prevent this happening again.

Have just been through Darlo and Bishop, problems all over the place. To think that it was totally fine yesterday, should have filled up then.

Mind you, as I am in favour to this protest I may just queue up, put a £5 in and then queue at the next one, and so on

Oh I don't know about that. There are some nice roads around here that empty my entire tank in less than 100 miles

I think that could mean that I need to fill up quite often, and at only £5 a fill...I think you may see my living on the forecourts for the next few days Nothing like making a point if you want to be heard.

Oh, and the more the prices rise in the next few days, the better. The higher the cost, the more likely people will participate

If people push prices up by panic buying, how does that help? If people acted normally the forecourts would not run out!

The Government learnt some salutary lessons last time around not only about logistics but about the fuel industry as well. They have had plenty of time to consult with the major oil companies and the fuel industry bodies not only to learn more but to plan their response to the next fuel protest.

The current cost of fuel is not due to duty (although I am the first one to admit that we pay too much tax) it's due to a lack of refining capacity worldwide which has recently been worsened by the US hurricane closing most of the Gulf Coast refineries and cutting back refining capacity even further.

Don't expect a quick fix, crude oil will be at $60-70 per barrel for a long time yet and if Mr Brown decides to cut the Governments duty to ease the burden it will be a bonus.

The state of Geogia in America has suspended Tax on fuel cos of the rising cost 33p litre !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They are taxed 7.5 cent per litre. Other states are thinking of following suit.
If America can freeze fuel tax cos of high cost, why the hell can't our government lower our's while the price of petrol is so high?? Just a thought.

The reality is they can (although Gordon and Tony are strung by their spending commitments) and they should temporarily but I doubt they will other tan a token gesture to gain some popularity!

Basically Mr Spence as usual is doing his own protest (while claiming it is a national one) without the support of other groups and he has been warned by the police that they are going to be very tough with any protest/blockades this time.

I filled up in Darlo yesterday at the Shell garage.
99.9 for optimax,i nearly walked back home to Aycliffe!!
Filled my tank though. and i saw a nice looking police woman (off duty but in uniform) driving a nice black integra type r,looked sweet to me(the car & the officer!).

Agreed. It was a very unique set of circumstances. The Government where caught out by the JIT delivery of petrol. The refrineries themselves were not blocked what happened was

1) Lorries parked outside refrineries.
2) Drivers of the tankers refused drive on grounds of "intimidation"
3) JIT Delivery causes shortages
4) Too late for the government to do anything - panics as usual
5) Petrol companies happy to let the drivers not drive and put some pressure on Government regarding tax
6) B-liar calls in the petrol bosses and tells them to to get the drivers driving all they will be taxed out of existence.

Game over.

Point 6 is a bluff, as the country has to purchase oil form someone. All the companies are global, so it does not matter what B-liar did they would get their cash. Unless B-liar wanted to shoot himself in the foot....lifting taxes while there is a protest....well I doubt even he is that stupid

Queues of motorists panic buying fuel are reported to have eased at petrol stations around the country.
Some outlets still ran dry on Saturday amid fears over the looming deadline for renewed action by protesters calling for lower fuel duty.

But the Petrol Retailers' Association said most motorists were getting the message that supplies were plentiful and there was no need to panic.

At the same time the government has been accused of feeding consumers' anxiety by insisting large cuts in duty are not possible while warning lives could be threatened if protesters target food depots.

I'm in the North East too and haven't spotted anything out the ordinary!

I filled up at Gosforth Shell today, just normal unleaded like the Optimax was too expensive for a full fill up. Knowing the Soob the petrol will be gone by Wednesday
