Just typed in 'prodrive p7' in google to get a price of these new and first result was a US Site. Clicked on a 'Show all prodrive products' banner and blow me if its not listed the complete list of prodrive parts, JDM prodrive seats, springs, alloys etc.

Scroll down the bottom and they have all the PPP's listed and all the exhaust components seperately. Now as I understand it you cant buy this stuff seperately new over here, or even outside a dealer.

I just spoke to them and they can ship to UK no problem (at a cost) so that works out at roughly £540 for a PPP .. so could this kit be fitted by a reputable tuner (TSL/ Roger Clark etc) and give you the same PPP you get from a dealer

What does £1600 buy you if you get it through dealer .. a large portion of that is dealer labour maybe ??

I wait with anticipation b4 I get my plastic out.

or am i a bit gor even contemplating this

I'm a newbie so this may be wrong but wouldn't the ecu be mapped for the 2.5 engine they have in the states so it wouldn't be much good on UK cars?

Whatever I'll buy everything else but the ECU, Dealer wouldn't be able to argue about the guaranty anymore if I install all the prodrive stuff

The question still needs to be asked though, why can they get the PPP for around £600 yet we have to pay £1600. OK our price includes fitting but that could only cost £200-£300 at main dealer rip off prices?

Perhaps that guy from prodrive would like to answer that one for us?

Also I'm not expert in overseas transaction, but I suspect you'll have to add the VAT on top of the price...

Yep, I suspect engine management have to be different, in other word it shouldn't work...

But I'm no engine specialist.

I almost certainly be interested by a prodrive back box + centre although I'd rather go for something more exotic if it wasn't a warranty issue. Also I don't think I will need a remap for that.

I'd quite like to know about the intercoller Y pipe though...

without looking at the link (yup, lazy me ) the States used to have different specs of PPP - Stage 1, 2 or 3 with different power / torque gains and costs to match. Stage 3 was most like the UK PPP AFAIR but there was a big bust up over there with people complaining they were being shortchanged on performance and it took a Prodrive technical report and a few other things to calm 'em down...

The outcome was something like a) the performance figures are done on an engine dynamometer to ensure repeatability and reduce losses that would be inherent in a car setup and b) it's hotter over there so performance will drop accordingly...

Just as a thought.....

Seeing this is not dealer supplied, the car won't be registered as having the "official UK PPP" And therefore any warrantee you have will probably go bye bye even if you get the dealer to fit it....IM may think differently if you make a claim (especially with drivetrain failure).

Thanks ....Those were my initial concerns... I think this one needs to be knocked on the head then.

I'm still enquiring about shipping for group buy for other bits they have.. Wheels etc.

As for if certain things like wheels ( or any heavy items ) etc... are cheaper ?

1. It'll cost a lot to post them over here.
2. When they arrive, you will have to pay import duty ( VAT ) and a handling charge to whoever brings them over - this generally works out at around 20 - 25 % of the total price you pay ( item & shipping ).
3. If something goes wrong with them or they dont fit, aren't compatable etc.., you're basically stuffed as it would cost too much to return them and you wont be covered by the same laws as when you buy in the UK.
4. If it is a heavy item, it cant be sent airmail so will have to come over surface, which generally takes 2 -3 months to arrive.

Yes, lots of things are cheaper in the USA - IF YOU LIVE THERE ! - most things now dont work out significantly cheaper if you import them because of all the extra costs involved - and before people say 'get them marked as a gift etc...' - 1. this is illegal, 2. customs are pretty hot now on personal imports, and KNOW what things are worth - they look out for things being misdeclared so chances are you won't get away with it.

For one of my businesses I used to buy stock from the USA ( large, heavy higgh value items ) - now I dont bother as the small saving is cancelled out by the long wait and lack of backup if things go wrong.

And for people who moan about 'rip off Britain' and why can the yanks get things much cheaper than us - its called 'economy of scale' - plus state tax in the US is much lower than VAT.

I Think this is too much of a headache for me to take on. I think i'll leave the importing to companies who have the resources to make it work i.e David Hendry cars with the Zero Sports Stuff etc.

Saying that, has anyone ever used japanparts.com ?

I'm still tempted to PPP the car although it's slightly over my budget. But damn, here it is too expensive for what it is.
