Vauxhall/Subaru strange combination
A local Vauxhall dealer to me has recently taken on a Subaru franchise about 4-5 miles away. I was surprised to find that at there showroom, that was quite literaly all there was (no workshop facility). Well i found out today that all mechanical work and parts etc.... are carried out at there vauxhall branch, by vauxhall mechanics! now i dont doubt the ability of the vauxhall boys, but would u risk your car in there knowing theres a fair chance they are not experienced with scoobys? Its the only scooby dealer for miles but i dont know if id use them.

Its a car .....................
We all need to remember that!!
Yes, a fast car ............ but, come on, it's a farmers vehicle!!
The Engineering in a Subaru is Agricultural and basic ............. NOTHING is complicated!!
Some people have a vested interest in scaring you all into thinking it needs medical type procedures to maintain ....... IT DOESN'T!!!!!

Oh and the engine is a flat four boxer type!!
Had nightmare problems with a Seat/Rover mixed franchise. Wrong engine oil in the PD engine, mechanics unaware of a difference in service regimes, rubbish parts ordering, delays and customer service was pants.
Funny thing Rover going down the pan!!!!! New Seat francise is tops.
No doubt PS will have something to say. Yawn!!!!!!

Wouldnt be the one in Stirling Ian Grieve's. If so i got my 3000 mile service done there, the subaru technicians from falkirk, one prodrive trained are based there (so i was informed on the sidc site). When dropping the car off i noticed that one of the workshops was full of imprezas being worked upon. Had no problem with the service and was slightly cheaper for the exact same parts & labour than the cars first 1000 mile service. Logbook all stamped with the official subaru emblem and not the vauxhall as some people may think might happen in this case.
Still dont know why they dont work on the subaru's at falkirk, but tbh i work 2 mins down the road from Ian's anyways so it's alot handier for me.
Should'nt have any problems getting work done there.

When your average 2.0 litre hatch/saloon is pushing out 130-150bhp and you have a car pushing out double that, it can hardly be called basic
A Subaru is not special, it is not a unique peice of engineering, it is not a supercar, it is by no means advanced. By most moderns standards - especially with older models are very basic standard saloon cars. Think Ford Mondeo...but even more low tech with a Turbo fitted and you wouldn't be far wrong. Which any decent competent mechanic can maintain and repair.
Now if it were a Frearri 365 booked in to have it's 6 webbers setup and balanced, Or a new clutch on a 4wd Diablo, then I may think twice
With the new Block exception rules, garages are no longer restricted to certain manufacturer's brands. So in theory multi-brand garages should become more common.

It's BASIC engineering FFS!!!
It's NOT special, it doesn't need special procedures (although I well remember your addiction to the **** Oil Change Procedure, soaking your Oil Filter overnight!!!ha ha ha!!).
BOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Did that make you jump?? Bet it did cos its come from a very special complicated ScoobyNet!!
It's a simple car that Farmer Giles could fix while spreading muck on his fields ............
........... don't believe the hype and myths!!

Pete, you dont know your **** from your elbow; as your 'mechanical' posts show..... As for your **** obsession, you know very well that I havent subscribed to it; I have only argued that cranking with the sparking plugs removed does give the main and big end bearings an easier start.

Remove the fooookin spark plugs before starting after an Oil change??????? ..... I've got news for you - that IS sad, it IS **** and it IS totally pointless!!!
You would have to do that EVERY morning if you truly believed it did any good whatsoever!! SUBARU say that you don't even have to pre-fill the filter!!
And, although I know you rate yourself very highly, I will take SUBARUs word over yours ...... thanks anyway

but it is hard to prove, but anyone who does them will help the engine!!!
as for asking subaru LMFAO
who do u think your talking to, the people who designed the cars lol
the people who work in the dealer are mechanics
not engineers.
also i wouldnt be to concerned about vauxhall working on your car
just need to watch out for them ragging your car as at subaru a 300bhp car is well the norm now aint it

Im used to dealing with it. Misguided owners like Pete were the reason that I stopped dealing in Porsches. If one more 944-owning-know-it-all-f*ckwit had told me that "I dont think that that happens with a Porsche....." Id have beaten them to death with a torque tube.
Simon
*you see it here too btw; they own a 944/951 and suddenly theyre experts on all aspects of the Superior Marque... ********

You'll probably be able to get your car serviced at a Saab dealers soon, their new 95 uses the same chassis and engine as the Legacy, just different bodywork, the new Saab 93 will probably be the same running gear as the impreza.
But the the old Saab 93 was just a Vauxhall astra chassis with a Calibra 2.0/2.0T engine.
One big happy family.
The new Skyline looks horrible because Renault now own Nissan.
And the Aston Martins are just flash Fords, and Ferrari's, FIATS!
What a sad world, no wonder people modify cars just to be different.

the more power you push the more strain on the componnents, the more that needs to be checked and possibly replaced and the more the tolerances need to be checked. I would rather pay a little extra at a service and get everything checked than spend 3K on an engine rebuild
