I suppose if Subaru advertised it as slow and boring then the chavs, theiving scum, and the rest of the numpties would bugger off and aspire/nick/buy/vandelise something else

What a sad state of affairs, haven't people got better things to do - i wionder if the complaint was from another manufacturer.

I think there should be a loist of things to be banned from advertising
Food - it makes you fat
Alcohol - it makes you drunk
Knives - they can kill you
Forks - same as knives
Spoons as above, just takes longer and more effort.
Electricity - it can kill you
Water - it can kill you.
Gas - as above
Cars - they can kill you
Aircraft/airlines - as above
Trains - as above
Lawnmowers - in the wrong hands fatal!

The list goes on

If it was me, i would make an advert with the car stationary and then have a caption of 'due to advertising standards we cannot show this car to be fast or to have good exceleration or good road handling, which of course it does'

So you're not allowed to tell people about a performance incentive to buy a performance car!?!?! Performance really is becomming a dirty word when applied to motoring isn't it? Jeremy Clarkson is right, those of the too much time and not enough brain variety are winning!

The nice folks who market the Evo had an ad which took the mickey out of this advertising code IIRC. Something about playing soothing background music as opposed to telling you it'll go from -60-0 in 7 seconds!

Yeah, the red nanny state is here to stay. Too much health and safety cr@p nowadays. You can't go for a dump without having regulations involved somewhere.

This is a great idea! Have you considered a career in advertising? You could have some green nut bicycle repairman type wander into shot beside a stationary car and then the voiceover could give it a bit of "This car is so good, so fast and so much fun that sad whinging green nutter Mr. Biggins would complain to the advertising standards people if we told you about it. Of course the actions of one sad git don't stop you from finding out for yourself so get the sad gits off your back, buy one of these and drive like a mad man!"

The some bloke could get into the car and drive off, knocking Biggins bike into the hedge as he goes past as the camera pans around to show a crowd of thousands of normal people cheering, eating fatty foods and telling Biggins where to stick it :-)

i saw an advert for the impreza on a sport channel on sky about a six months ago.

a bloke was driving it about. then he looked in his rear view mirror and saw a sports bike coming up behind him. there was then a shot of his foot hiting the throttle and he left the bike for dead.
i wonder how they got away with that. (the tossers probably dont watch motorsport and it is a bad influence)

Well in light of all the fuss, I've re-jigged the Subaru adverts so they have more mass appeal and it keeps the PC lot at bay :

Speaking of adverts that never were but should have been...
VW - Don't forget...
VW - Small but tough...

Yes, they're old ... but there may be someone out there somewhere (possibly in Yorkshire) who hasn't seen them before

PS. If you don't have a sense of humor, I don't want to hear about your moral outrage

I've just seen one advert which gives claim to a 50-70 time in 7 seconds - now surely that's much the same?
